Shaving a dry face
Hi,I would like tp know if it possible to shave a dry face wiht a str8. Long time ago I use to shave with a Mach3 with no shaving cream on a dry fa e with no irritation.
If I do it with a str8 can I damage the edge?

Try it and see what happens to your face. That's all I would say would get damaged.

You are more likely to damage your face...I bet you wouldn't want to finish the shave

Of course you can. You see a demonstration of this in the original Rambo movie.
But dry hair will cause the blade to lose sharpness quicker - for any type of razor.
Edit> Ah, just watched that scene, Rambo never did get his shave. Just as well considering the sheriff's dreadful honing technique...

DO NOT, under any circumstances, shave with a dry face and a straight razor.

Cuts, burn, ingrown, bumps not to mention putting your edges through hell. Really, why even try, to see how good you can get at delivering yourself unto a mediocre shave?

You can try it. But I think your face will be telling you it wasn't a particularly good idea to have done so..

It sounds terrifying; aside from being uncomfortable you would lose all margin for error. The lather provides a cushion for the blade, as well as a sort of buffer that slows the edge and gives an extra space to cut through before your, oh, face.
Ever seen a hide get scraped before tanning?

I've never shaved my entire face dry and with a straight. However, upon final inspection after the cold water splash and alum block if I notice patches that I missed (usually under my jawline on my neck) I will dry shave the missed area. No problems at all and no irritation. Also, after using the alum block the whiskers seem pert and easily shaved.
Shaving my whole face that way? I don't have any desire to.
