If you have a bump/blemish on your face/neck...

... think twice about using a straight. I totally sliced off what WAS a small blemish, and now have a somewhat major cut. I tried to shave around it, but apparently was unsuccessful. Now I'm back to using my DE until the wound heals, for fear of slicing it again (it's easier to maneuver around it with a DE).

If I had just taken that one day to shave with a DE instead of a straight, the blemish would have been gone... now I probaby have 5 days of the DE before the new and improved wound is properly healed. I'm actually not minding the change of pace to the DE (I had used nothing but a straight for probably 10 months), but I'm beginning to miss the straight after only two shaves.

I have cut myself and when shaving the next day shaved the scab off. Then aagain the next day. It healed after a while :lol:

I will shave around any cuts/blemishes, etc for a few days if I can. But most things heal quickly.

When I first started I managed to slice myself a few times. I just went gingerly over them or took a day off from shaving.

I also have a growth on my neck which I keep meaning to have a doctor remove (benign skin cancer or something like that), one of these days I'll just oops it off with the straight...heh.

Slicing and dicing is part of the learning curve. I wear my scars as badges of honor. At least, that's what I keep telling myself.

Ijust did exactly that, but I was using a new Feather blade. They're so sharp that I had donemajor surgery before I even felt a thing. I'm also recovering with a DE.

I have a gash between my sideburn and cheekbone that was bleeding so bad that styptic didn't stop it. I had to let it bleed for it to clot. The gash is now black and can't clean it off because it may start bleeding again.

One of Ye-Olde-Barber's tricks was that when he applied shaving cream, he would place a finger over a blemish or mole to remind him of its presence by the absence of lather over it.

Neosporin will help heal the nick more quickly and reduce any scaring. Scaring, with time, will fade.

I have one bump, a mole i think, that sits up and is a lttle narrower at the base than the top. I have gotten under it with the spike point and cut it about haflway thru. Well the top did not come off but it could swing open like a squeez bottle cap, and as a mole it bled for quite a while, even the alum block did not stop it. It has healed and i haven't done that again.

I did cut my ear lobe a while back after pulling up from a movement!!!!!!
Too much florish at the end.

The other day I learned talking while shaving is bad and nicked my nose while doing a side stroke on my upper lip.

Man, I wonder how zit-faced teenagers managed back in the days when all they had were straight razors!

I guess they could have always used the blade to kill themselves.

I'll second the Neosporin comment. It really does increase healing time. I like to put it on at night. Not too much, but I rub it in good and leave just a light layer on top.
