The Head-Shaving-Topic

I have shaved my head "wet" for the past 9 years, always using the canned shaving cream. But want to go back to basics.

I usually shave my head every second day, and under those conditions it now takes me 15 minutes and 1 go, after 3 days it has to be 2 runs.

The amount of scars on the back of my head is minimal (no clue on the future), most often cut places were around the ear and near spots where the hair tends to go the opposite way (no clue on what you call that "curl" in the hair's growth).

Cuts are usually a result of very old (moe than a week) blades or "congested" blades. Anothe possibility is the disappearing of the "glidinggel" on the blades, once that is gone you will get way too much friction.

Most important with the disposable blades is keeping them clean whilst shaving. I never managed to get that right, until I started shaving under the shower, the running water washes the hairs out x times better than when rinsing the blade. The only trick is to keep the lather on ....

Furthermore I do all by touch. In case of moles etc. I put a finger on it and shave following the contours of the finger positioned, slowly moving the finger prevents cutting.

How many scars will it take ..... erm, scars do not bother me, if I do not kill myself I will keep trying till I get it right regardless.

Why do you want to use a str8 for this? You're shaving in the shower and blind, and then you're putting your finger in the path of the blade- a bad scenario for a str8. It seems to me you would do better with a safety razor, maybe even an M3P with the motor running for what you want to do.

Have done both suggested ways, but spending $40 a month on disposable blades is a waste, and motorised, well just isn't shaving ....... as mentioned before, I have been shaving my head for the past 9 years

Why? Back to the old ways, and save the wallet and maybe some environment! But do not get me wrong on using my fingers, it sets the path out, so you do no miss a spot. I only "block" 1 mole I have in my neck (this after cutting it a few times)

Basically I use my free hand as a "ruler" and skin tightener.

Uhm, no, I used to be a headbanging longhaired nozem (now I look like a bald raver, hey, one likes his/her extremes).

I had hair to my waist down, and after a night out, and a bit of beer ..... no, not a bet.... :D

I woke up the next morning with that always omnipresent morning-after-beer-taste (no matter how hard you brush) and when opening my mouth I noticed that I had been chewing on my hair during the night.

So I woke up with beertasting hair entangling a few teeth on a sunday morning. And that was it, barber was closed on mondays, so on tuesday I was bald (after a looooong discussion with the barber).

Freaked my mom out though. :twisted:

I like(d) it enough, well so much that I have now decided to stay bald (I was about 23 at that time, so natural baldness had not kicked in :P )

Thus goes the story of the baldy's hair.

I'm twenty-two at the moment and have a head of hair on me. It's around chin-length. I've had it past my shoulders in recent years, but I've had to cut it down for summer employment and stuff. I don't like it too long, really. Just "lenghty."

I learned early on that most people have some troubles wityh anything they can find on a person if they want to.

I say take people the way they are (overhere they cannot make you cut your hair for employment). I do not care what religion, skincolour, ideas or looks one has, it is up to them, nor do I care what image other people have of me.

Only 1 thing counts, are YOU happy? If so, keep it like it is, if not change it as you see fit.

Oh, and on the long hair, I really did get tired of the grooming, caring split hairs etc., that helped as well (have had long hair for 7 years).

Yeah, I've never worked in a place that made me cut my hair - I just did it myself because it's so much easier when you have a hair style that can be asily stuffed under a cap or something. Even easier, I would imagine, if you were totally bald! 8)

Then again, how often people get the "wrong" idea with baldies (in my case at least) .......

The Headblade is the way to go. I have shaved my head for years and it is the best product I have ver used. Give it a shot. It is in the links section. Unbeatable! :D

Uhm, if you need a headblade you cannot shave in my humble opinion, I use a normal disposable blade and that works just fine for being a disposable, no need to get some fancy gadget.

As, by now often, previously mentioned, I have been shaving my head for years.

So no, I looked at it and just the idea of gilette blades makes me laugh, for sure in some "other" piece of plastic. Obsolete materials.

Read back, it might have some useful info for you.

Bebosky, your avatar is the Headblade symbol, isn't it? I was in Walgreens the other day and saw it and I told my wife, "That is bebosky's avatar!" She looked at me like I was nuts and walked away.

I had my brother shave my head earlier this year. (I don't know why, and I don't plan on doing it again.) But I kept it shaved for about 2-3 weeks. I found the shaving to be difficult enough with a disposable and I know for certain I would not ATTEMPT it with a straight. I would like to see someone else do it, though.

Oh, I think the little changes in hair directions are called "cowlicks," or at least they are around here.

Good morning (my 1st coffee is running).

At first it is very hard indeed to shave your own head.
The first year or so there were many cuts, often by just "messing about" to see what would be the best way.

Bit the same as I read here, I would make myself a nice pot of coffee and lock myself in, in the bathroom. I do have to say that it sadly has become more of a "habit" than a ritual, it goes too easy nowaday (maybe that is another reason why I want to start trying it with a straight razor.

I guess the most tricky part would be where your neck ends and the skull starts .... the little "bonebumb" sort of (besides the completely different technique).

Uhm, you want to see? Not in the beginning (curse mumble, aluin, mumble, auch) ..... :oops:

Cowlicks ...... wow, ok, learned something new already. Overhere roughly translated it would be "canopy", as with a tree. :shock:

I've been shaving my head for over a year, and I love the headblade. Much quicker and easier then a regular blade.

It's not about being able to shave, I can shave my face with a Mach 3 and get a good shave, but I "choose" to use a straight razor. It's all about what a person prefers.

I wasn't talking about shaving one's face, but on the necessity of a seperate tool on shaving your head with disposable blades.

I will not even be able to use the "headshaver" even if I wanted, as a Wilkinson (you call it differently though) blade works better on me. The gil blades just don't cut it for me.

And very true, it is by choice.

The reason I posted that message was because it was a reply which, if the previous post had been read, was "obsolte". It already stated my opinion on the headblade before.

But sure, to each his/her own, no comment from me on that.

I am new to this forum, but I have been snooping around for a while. I have been shaving my head for quite some time now. I went from a nice gigantic wavy afro, to dreadlocks in college, and finally, when I went corporate, I was force to cut them. I shaved clean and started to like it. I tried to grow a mohawk, but corporate did not go for that idea. If I can't have hair my way, then I don't wan't any at all. My company policy: No Goatees, mustache can't fall below lips, sideburns must not fall below bottom of ears, and most of all hair can't fall below nape of neck.

So, I started to like the clean shaven look. I shave everyday. I first started with electrics, then disposables, but went to DEs, GEMs, Injectors and straights. My best shaves are with an injector or Gem. The straight does a great job, but requires more time. I wet shave, i.e, with badger brush, and shaving cream. I also, learned how to use a hand mirror along with my bathroom mirror when I used electrics. This is probably why I can shave with these different implements and have not recieved one cut as of yet; 4 years using blades.

Get yourself an injector from ebay. If you prefer, then use a Mach 3. Bic metals are also very nice. Definitely wet shave, brush, cream etc. and learn how to use a hand mirror.

I guess if I go bald then I will be like that guy on Sienfeld who always headshaved and did not know he was bald until he tried to re-grow his hair. Hmmmm, may I should check, LOL

Ah, injector, looked that up, schick, which is Wilkinson Sword overhere, so we use the same at the moment. Even better, we have gone through exactly the same "tools" in the same picking order ..... :D

I stopped using a handmirror though during the electric stage, it my inhibited movement.

Did you ever try to shave your head with a straight?
(If so, how do you keep your skin stretched and still use a hand mirror?)

I am having trouble posting when I log in. My skin on my head is tight naturally, so I don's stretch when I shave. I am at the stage where I don't need a mirror, but I still use one anyway. When I straight shave I use cutting forms that follow a back to front, front to back shaving stroke, with the grain. I am in the process of cleaning up and replacing the scales on my razors. When they are complete I will get back to it.

You dont need to use a HEADBLADE...but you are in the minority of folks who dont find it useful.

I am glad you dont need one, but lets not try to knock someones shaving ability.

Plus the service of HEADBLADE is remarkable. They also sell fantastic head creme that makes your head shine like a beacon.

I'll briefly explain again. :D

I have used almost everything, having used disposables for years, and for multiple reasons (still disposable blades, no cuts with ordinary safety razors because of experience and the fact that in my case gilette just does not shave close enough).

Oh, and overhere, there is no headblade .... is the first time I heard of it.

I lived in Germany for a couple of years. I enjoyed the Netherlands very much. I mean very much...it is beautiful and I enjoyed many other aspects. I had no idea you were "over there."
