Hi folks,
Do all of you guys strictly use straights? Do we have any MACH 3 lovers hiding in here?
I use a straight 90% of the time. When I travel I take both a straight and a Merkur DE. If the light is poor in the motel bathroom I switch to the DE which is much more forgiving. I occasionally use a Mach III for touch-up when in a hurry. I never use it for my entire shave though. I cover everything with a staight first then touch up a secoond pass with the Mach III if I am running short on time. This is very seldom though as I wake early just so I can enjoy a leisurely shave eavery day.

Ok, I admit it. I don't use a straight razor on my balls.Quote:

so far, here's my favorites:
Straights: I am partial to Henkels, ERN (one Dad got me) Dovo; and perhaps if I used them more (afraid of messing them up) wonderedge and TI. The goto, though is the Henkels. Of course there are others I like really well too but I'd go on for pages...
DE's-I have limited experience here; I have a 3 piece travel one made in France, a Merkur Futur, and a gillette adjustable I got in a trade.
The gillette wins hands down. I recently bought a gillette toggle, but it is too mint. I am still afraid of messing it up.
Mach3-I have an M3 Power. It works quite well, and ridiculously fast, even when my mind still hasn't woken up. Something I daren't try with my straights.

Just a straight razor. Why is that not included in the poll?

I use a straight razor all the time unless traveling on business or if I have tested too many straight razors as I hone for folks and get a little tender or abraided; then I use a DE for a couple days. Lynn
I've used nothing but a straight for about 10 months. Once I got str8 shaving down I didn't see any reason to use anything else.
I use my straight most of the time. But I also like to use my DE too and sometimes use the DE after I use the Straight to pick up any little areas I missed. I still own a mach 3 but the wife uses to shave the legs and cooter.
Shaving with straight razor? I thought we are just talkin about it here?
Weird people...
God Bless the cooter...what would do with out themQuote:

I measure my experience with DEs in decades and my experience with str8s in months, so I don't think I'm giving up DEs anytime soon.
Although I find I'm getting better, I still can't get totally clean shaven with a str8. It may be my experience, but the DE gives me better control and lets me shave at angles I just can't get with a str8.
I recently tried a motorized M3P and it shaved surprisingly well with absolutely no irritation or discomfort, but the pivoting head prevented me from having enough control to get at the last stubble in difficult spots.
I also use injector razors, which are quite good. I have trimmed down a Feather str8 blade and put it in an injector. This combination is so good that I use it for my final touchups.
Straight for the face, and injector for clean-up on the neck.

When I first started with a straight I supplemented with a DE but after about 6 months or so I weaned myself off completely. The only time at this point I would consider using the DE again was if I was traveling and the circumstances made using a straight impractical.
Like a lot of you, I use a SR. And I use a DE Merkur for travel, or a quick shave when I dont want to bother with stroping, or paying much attention.
I use the straight exclusively on my face, and the sides of my head. But I do use a head blade for my head.
