Passes
I have about 5 shaves under my belt with the C-Mon I restored and RupRazor honed. I tried the one pass down and one pass up, I keep seeing on the videos. But I find I need to do 4 passes to get an acceptable shave. So I wonder, do most of get it done in two. How many passes do YOU do?
-
I do two passes because that gives me a close enough shave. It's pretty much down than up. It's not BSS everywhere (pretty mucd only BBS on the cheeks), but I don't get any irritation (and I have rather sensitive skin).

Hola,
For work, only 2 passes are really needed - WTG & XTG, cuz there's no more visible stubble but it can be felt The ATG pass is reserved for date night, when my face needs to be as smooth as glass. Hope that helps!
P.S. As you iron out your prep, shave style, and skin stretching regimen, your results should improve over time.
Best of Luck

Two does the trick for me and if I go three I court irritation. Like Dylan I must have sensitive skin. I have very fine hair on my noggin. I've never shaved anyone but me so I can't really assess my beard as far as toughness goes but I suspect mine is not as wiry and tough as some and those poor souls may need to go more than two. OTOH, as your technique, prep and stretching improve so will your shaves.

WTG XTGx2
Normally I do WTG followed by 2 passes XTG(one each way). Still the chin have to get some extra passes on some spots. ATG only for festive occasions. Technique improving over time as result
-
Well, I do an XTG then a ATG (mostly) then a sort of touch up--water buffing the areas that still feel stubbly. So, 2 and a half passes maybe?
-
I do 2 pass's WTG,XTG and do touch up with DE around the goattee, leaves a presentable, nice shave but im still working on my technique and stretching of my skin as well.
-
For me it's one pass north to south, one pass south to north and then finish off any rough spots. The more you stretch the skin and get those hairs on a flatter surface the easier it is to get yourself a two and a half pass BBS shave.

Passes
Gentlemen,
I have shaved in three-passes for quite sometime. With a sensitive Hollywood skin, however, I find that two must do the job.
No easy task this, as you may know. Thus far I have trimmed the shave to two and a half passes, with some clean up.
The first pass is north-south with the grain, and the second east-west across the grain from the mouth to the ear on both sides. The neck still needs three passes, though, and clean up, but I am working on it.
Regards,
Obie

I only need 2 passes WTG and XTG! But because of my chin and some neck areas i have to do it ATG.. and a 3rd pass in this spots..they are very dificult ones..and my neck its very sensitivy to get a 3rd pass! ..but im only shaving for 2 / 3 months:)..i've a lot of work and learning to do!:)

With two I get a close shave, but it won't last long. The third makes it smooth and long lasting. Of course this doesn't include my neck, where I'm happy just to keep clean.
-
Voted two but every now and then get it in one. WTG, ATG. Sometimes I touch up on the neck. Honestly, whatever works for you is good.
-
Three passes with an additional scything cut on either side of my neck afterwards to finish up. Before using a straight razor I had always thought I had sensitive skin and made sure I bought the sensitive goop in a can. Now I know I don't have sensitive skin at all and can take liberties during my shave that I never thought possible.
-
3 passes, because I can. Two would actually do, but I get a kick out of an irritation free ATG pass :)
-
I've been working on technique. I've had to deviate away from the videos though. I drew my diagram with some degree of accuracy, and now I start on my neck, WTG, then working out and away from the chin, do an all over WTG pass, then north to south and south to north on the neck, relather the whole face, XTG everywhere, followed by an ATG. It's near impossible to do a true ATG on my neck, but I try.
-
The Side burns, cheeks, upper lip get one pass WTG and one pass ATG.
The Jawline gets a pass WTG, XTG, and ATG.
The Chin gets two passes WTG and two passed ATG.
The neck gets multiple passes in multiple directions. Since the hair on my neck grows in just about every direction imaginable. This chews up my neck up pretty good, but it gets better with every shave.
Unfortunatley I still have to finish up the chin and neck area with my, nuclear fusion powered turbo jet engine mach 4 extaordinaire.

WTG + XTG + ATG + WP* = BBS
* Water pass on spots that need it, when needed.
-
2 passes game should over. GL
-
I strive for one clean pass, I shave for comfort though, not closeness, I get a nice close shave that lasts well past 5:00pm rarely do I try for bbs in all directions...
Now notice I did not say one pass WTG...we were discusing this in chat the other night, The better you know your face the better the shave is and also the fewer passes.....
-
I have been doing two passes ever since I started basically. My first pass is now pretty damn good, the second pass achieves the same results as it always has done, but it's easier now my first pass has improved so much.
incidently, I never tried to improve my first pass, but as technique improves it gets better. I could easily go a day comfortably on a one pass shave.
-
Once over is enough if done right.
-
I can get a petty good shave in a single pass if I've shaved the day before. If I miss a day or more, I usually go with two passes to get really smooth. I do three passes on rare occasions, but can only tell the difference in certain areas on my neck.
-
I do 3 passes with clean up.
But I'm a noob.
