Lightbulb Manhandle your neck for a BBS neck shave!

So I got home after a swift post-work beer last night, and I took the opportunity to re-watch Lynns DVD.

I'd been focussing on the restoration and honing sections quite heavily up till now, because I have a little project on the go at the moment. This time I decided to watch the shave section instead, more for just the little pointers you can pick up.

Well, I did pick up a pointer and I tried it this morning and it worked. Brilliantly.

So what is this pointer I hear you ask. Well, you'll have to watch the DVD to find out...

    Just kidding!

I've seen a few threads on here with people saying that they are having trouble getting a truly BBS shave with the neck area. That was definately my problem area! Whilst watching the DVD I witnessed the holy grail of neck shaving.

What you do is pull the skin right at the base of the beard line towards the back of your neck as you make your pass. This makes all the hair stand right up and gets a much smoother finish.

So for the right side of your neck, you put your fingers about 2 or 3 inches under your right ear (basically just behind the rear most and lowest point of the beard line) and pull towards the back of the neck, and vice versa for the left side.

So, if you're having trouble with the neck area and cant get it quite as smooth as you want to, then manhandle your neck! It really works!

If anyone wants me to stick some pics up for a better explanation let me know, I'm more than happy post my ugly mug...!

The reality is for most of us you have to do some really funny maneuvers to various parts of your face to get a really good shave. if someone tooks some pictures we could probably all be blackmailed at some point in time.

Hey man, Thanks! I've had real trouble with a couple of spots on my neck, and this post actually popped into my head during my last shave, and wouldn't you know--it really helped! I still haven't hit BBS, but it's MUCH better!

    Cheers!

I actually pull my hairs flat when I do that, because my hairs grow horizontally from the center outwards in the throat area. Thanks for the tip though, I'm sure it helps for other people

All it takes for a BBS shave is a really sharp razor and good skin prep. Get yourself some good shaving soap or cream, create a rich lather, take your time to lather your face.

Glad you brought this up.I can get my neck smooth if I rub down from the chin and up to the chin but side to side is quite ruff. I can, however get the little area just under my chin smooth.I'll try this out.It took me quite a while to get smooth using a DE with trial and error so sooner or later we'll get there.

I bought a razor from the sites store, a "Dovo", and iam ready to hone it for the first time. All razors come fully shave ready, what iam wondering is if they put tape on the spine when they hone these razors? do you know? also what the honing pattern is- how many strokes on this stone and how many on that stone?

I've been getting great, smooth results on my face lately except near the front of my neck, so that tip might come in handy. Darn hair is growing sideways so it's difficult to come up with a pass that won't end up gouging my face up lol.

Hopefully I'll get to sit down and watch Lynn's dvd again when this semester ends.
