I just picked up my razors from the P.O. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow morning!
By the way, I noticed there is some kind of oil you applied to my razors. What kind of oil is it and where can I get it? I know that oil should be applied to the blade if the razor is to be stored for a while but I don't know what kind of oil.
Anyway, thanks againg to honing my razors!

Just be careful with your Lynn honed razor. It is I'll bet much sharper then you have seen. I have a nice scar to prove it:cry: . I wasn't quite paying as much attention as needed with a razor honed by Lynn and before I knew it I was making pink, no red soap. :eek:

It's a bit on the heavy side, so for my daily use razors I only keep a drop worked into the pivot. It's great for long term storage though, coating the entire blade, and a dab goes a LONG way. I also like the fact that it's supposedly sterile. I don't feel the need to wash the blade with soap and water prior to shaving, just a good wipe is OK. I wouldn't do that with Tuf-Glide, Break-Free, etc. Nor would I trust others like these with the delicate handle materials like you find on straights.

Remember that the prep is as important as the rest of the shave. Get that beard moist and soft, and take your time to enjoy the best shave you will have (until the next shave, that is).

I didn't butcher myself as I worried about yesterday. :D That's probably because I took my sweet 'ole time shaving....50 minutes, 3 passes. The newly honed razor made a huge difference. I think, however, I need to adjust my pressure as I have a bit of burn on my neck. I haven't mastered the technique for shaving my neck that well yet...especially, with a really keen edge. Nothing like the burn I was getting before they were honed, though. Add that to the fact I haven't shaved with a straight in over a week, my face will probably need a little time to reacclimate itself with my tonsorial tools.
It was a nice shave otherwise!! Can't wait until tomorrow morning to do it all again!!

I's all down hill from here. Now just make sure to ALWAYS be gentle stropping and that edge should last a while. There will be more great shaves in the near future.

Well, I'm happy to report I had the best shave to date since I started using a straight. The sharp razors and adequate beard preparation, coupled with little or no pressure at all, and I got a great shave. I guess you do learn something everyday.

Germany has produced Ballistol oil for 70 years or so.
Incredulous when reading the recommendation to use it on metal, wood and leather, I tried it on one pair of shoes. Wow! They became like moccasins, caressing my feet. Meanwhile have begun treating my other shoes pair by pair.
Not to mention my razors. :-)
Ballistol has a particular smell. Some like it. Others do not.

Excellent product. For me, the 0.5 litre cannister is fine.

Thanks to Lynn, I had a good shave from my first SRP honed razor. I've been using a disposable straight with good results, but now wanted to graduate to the real thing.
