Hello Gents,
I was wondering how many seasoned SR shavers out there shave with the one hand? If you use both, did you start by using both or train the dominant hand first?
Currently im using one hand only, I don't feel comfortable using both but I plan to as the hand/arm gets in the way at some point usually. What other advantages are there when using both hands?

I've just started but I only use one hand. I have no trouble with it.
This is another one of those "do what you're comfortable with and what works for you" things. When going WTG, I use my right hand on the right side of my face and my left hand on the left side of my face. When I go ATG, I use only my right hand.
But I settled into this pattern after experimenting with both hands quite a bit. It was awkward at first using my left hand, but I am comfortable using either one. I've simply decided that, for now, I prefer the above pattern.
I used both from the start - so both felt weird... though my dominant did feel better.
Now I find that some places feel easier with my dominant and others feel easier with the other hand.
I think 2 hands can make it easier to get certain parts of the face (and to better see what you're doing).
For me I currently do:
- WTG - same side hand / face
-ATG / XTG - opposite hand / face

Do what feels right for you, but definately try both hands when you are comfortable with your dominant hand. When I started, I used just my dominant hand, then saw Lynn's DVD and tried the second hand and found the quality of my shaves went through the roof (not initially, but after a few tries).

From the first day I used two hands.
The left was slightly uncomfortable to use initially, but within a few days I was adept enough to maintain that pattern.
I still use two hands for all the passes, even on the upper lip and the chin area.

Both hands, from day one. While I was learning I actually found I nicked myself less with the non-dominant hand, I presume as I was gentler with it.
I basically copied Lynn's shaving demo from the DVD exactly, than modified a few of the strokes as I got better and found how my own hair growth patterns were set out.
I started with both from the first shave. Much to my surprise I hold the razor equally well with my nondominant hand.
I started from the beginning using both hands. Things were a little awkward at first with the non-dominant hand but It quickly got better.
Even after seven-eight months the non-dominant hand isn't quite as agile as the dominant but overall it is better than the weird contortions needed to use the same hand everywhere.

I started with the dominant right hand and when trying the left I would get disoriented looking in the mirror and gave up on that initially. A year or more down the road someone posted that they practiced manipulating the razor with their non dominant hand while watching television.
I started doing that with a razor I had dulled and within a couple of days I was able to shave with either hand. I have more or less gone back to shaving with the dominant hand only simply because I've gotten so used to it. On some days I will use both just for the heck of it but I am fine with the dominant hand and personally find no advantage in shaving with both.
OTOH, (no pun intended) I broke a collar bone 6 years ago in a fall off of a bicycle. It was on my non dominant side but if it had been on the dominant I would have had to shave with the left hand so it pays to learn the technique. You never know when you'll need it.
I use both but only one at a time - as in today is left, tomorrow is right. I just don't like the idea that one hand can't give a superlative shave and needs the other to come and help.

To answer your question: No.
The first three months or so I used my dominant hand only.
Then all of a sudden one day I decide to try out my left as well. Simple as that. I had no problems, and the shave went alot quicker. With one handed shaving I found I had to constantly alter the position of teh scales depending on where on my face I was shaving. By using both hands, I found less adjustments needed to be made, and the whole thing went along much smoother

I used both hands right from the start. I have nicked and cut the left side of my face (dominant hand) as opposed to the right. I guess I am gentler when using my right hand. :beer2:
I used both hands from the start. Trying to use my dominant hand for the entire shave was more uncomfortable than just learning to use my left hand.
But like so many have already said, whatever works is best.
Upon advice by more experienced I started using both hands from early on. The more strokes you learn to do the better shave IMHO cause you can work without having to strain your dominant hand to get at certain angles.

Both from day one. It felt logical, and after some time, it worked flawlessly. There are certain areas I could not buff without holding the razor upside down with my dominant hand, so it is a non starter.
I shaved with my right hand only, then relearned to shave each side with a different hand (so shaving with both hands) and it is much better. It took a while to get my left hand to behave and stop murdering my face, but after a week or so it went great.
It is much better imo, to shave with both hands because you can catch angels you would not be able to catch with one hand. I wouldn't say whatever works best, I'd say use both hands even if it's not the best for you atm, you quickly learn it and it's worth the few cuts.:beer2:

Use both. There are angles one can do better than the other for certain parts of the face. Can shave face 100% with either one. Had to train the left and it took about 10 sessions.
