How do you keep your lather hot?

I wish I could keep my lather hotter. Here's my routine:

1. Fill sink with hot water and place cup with soap in there.
2. Shower
3. Wet face with hot water last (in shower)
4. Work up lather in cup with soap (hot water)
5. Only apply lather to part of face I'm going to shave immediatly
6. A little more hot water on brush and repeat.

The lather isn't even close to the hot water I'm using. Any ideas short of a barber machine?

BTW, I just saw Lynn's tip #3. Haven't tried it yet, but any more ideas?

I would say to soak your brush in hot water while you shower.

There is this thing called "scuttle". Basically it is a cup with a water reservoir that can be filled with hot water. Some people also use two cups inside each other to similar effect. Have a search on the site. The thread was something like "redneck scuttle".

Or you could fill the sink with water and place your bowl there during the shave.

This is what I started doing and it works very well. I recommend it. But a good scuttle doesn't cost much and I'm going to be picking one up in the near future here.

I use a ceramic (desert) bowl and place this inside another (glass pyrex) bowl with water between the 2, the smaller bowl sits just below the top of the larger 1 and after soaking both in hot water whilst I shower, I empty them out, then refill the larger one with just enough water so when the smaller 1 sits in the top it doesnt spill out and burn me, I make my lather and it stays nice and warm for a 3 pass shave

I love my Scuttle!!!!

The trick is to put about 1/4 inch of water in the bottom of the top bowl and when you take the brush out, drag is on the side of the bowl so the water stays in the bowl.

Warm/Hot suds are awesome.

Self watering pot

I picked up a self watering pot at Walmart for $6. I have to agree that it might be a bit too big for some people; but I just find it ideal. I fill it up with hot water while I shower, it keeps the lather warm thought the shave.

I also have one of the Walmart "redneck" scuttles, but when I whip up my lather, it seems I come out with just enough for one application.

I will lather my whole face, and shave about half of it before I have to reapply.

So I guess I always have hot lather, since each time I apply, it's made right then :p

I use the large size of the Moss scuttle,here's the link:Sara Bonnyman Pottery: Moss Scuttle . I like the large scuttle because it gives me plenty of room to whip up my soap right in it. Sometimes I may have to charge the brush twice,but I can always get nice hot lather that lasts through a lazy 3 pass shave. There's a duty charge for the Moss Scuttle as it comes from Canada but there are some made here in the U.S. Just use your search engine of choice for shaving scuttle and check out some reviews.

I had a DB scuttle, but have since abandoned it and gone to face lathering, and haven't worried so much about how warm my lather is (same conclusion as BigSpendur).

However, since Autumn is upon us, I do find myself pondering a DB brush scuttle....

A small Moss scuttle does it for me. Warm lather not hot. I have the scuttle and the lather bowl sitting in the sink full of hot water while I'm in the shower to preheat. Replace the hot tap water in the scuttle and it keeps the lather warm for the second pass.

If you build lather on your face vs. in the cup, then you can drizzle some hot water into the base of your brush between applications.

i have been filling sink with hot water putting the soap and mug in the sink and putting my brush in hot water as well to soak... shower... drain sink and glass add new fresh hot water...make lather..put back into sink full of hot water wait a few min....stir and lather some more and by this time you should have some pretty warm and thick lather going....only apply on your face what your going to shave right away so it stays warm in the sink

Yep, I have one of those and they work very well. I usually just use hot water from the tap, but I've been thinking of boiling some water and pour in to see if it lasts longer. My only concern there is that it might get too hot and start to dry out the lather. But if that happens you can just add a little water and work it up a bit...
