I was just about to put the last finishing touch on an otherwise great shave when it happened. A small shelf near my bathroom sink was the culprit. It reached out and smacked my elbow while my razor was in my hand, ie., sending my Bengal right into my cheek. I think the look on my face says it all. Look out for those obstructions guys. Attachment 32767 Has any other experienced shaver have anything dumb like this happen to them?
The only pain I felt was to my Ego. Only a minor cut, I'll live.
The other day I was making the transition from the cheek over the jaw and onto the neck when I went in too steep and got almost the same cut. It didn't hurt but I knew what had happened the moment it had happened.
Another time, I hooked my ear with the spike of a razor and got my earlobe wicked good.
While I haven't done that, I have clunked my (very favorite of all time)Bengall bevel-first into the faucet, illiciting much the same look of dissapointment. That looks like a good size slice - heal up!

You manned up, but hate to see it happen. We've all gotten some odd nick or will. Mine was with a shortened SR with a handle (no scales) on the left cheek bone. I was making a downward WTG stroke and elbow touched the wall & I tried to filet my cheekbone w/ the toe of the blade. Actually it was only about a half inch, but a nice deep flap of skin. When I started on the other cheek is when the flap opened. Had to use the styptic right then, gusher. Personally, mine was an attention lapse. I just wore it with pride & shaved around it for about a week.

It happens. I find the riskiest times are when I have a bunch of different sized razors for shave test.
Changing from an 8/8 immediately to say a 4/8 challenges the old proprioceptors. :p

I use a large 13/16 Bengall spike and oddly enough, I haven't zinged myself at all with the point...perhaps it comes from being extra careful rather than just ploughing ahead with a round point because you're saying to yourself, "it's round...what could possibly happen...?".Quote:

I was coming in from above to start my WTG pass going down my cheek. I shave at 6am before I leave for work/school, so I'm not always 100% awake. I came in at slightly too steep an angle and cut straight down onto my cheek bone. Not a big bleeder, but it hurt like $*&^ every time I talked or smiled.

Well, actually I am in my 50s, and being a man am not vain in the least. And, I had never actually looked "under" my skinny jaw in a mirror, and didn't notice that I had the starting of a hanging jowl. Only about 0.0005 millimeters vertical hang distance. Oh yeah, something similar to me twice, I think. The second one wasn't as bad, but still very embarrassing.
That second time I cut my... Nose. I was shaving, and then my mom said something that didn't make any sense which made me laugh. I then wanted to pull the razor away from my face, but it ended up in my nose. It sounded kind of like this: "HahahahURGH...... Darn."
First time I put an alum block on my nose.
The first stupid cut was kind of risky though. I was shaving my throat, and I wanted to remove the razor from the skin and move it to another part. I did that with a rather uncontrolled movement of my arm, which made me stab my razor in my troat. There was no resistance at all as the razor kept on cutting diagonally up until it had reached my chin, where the razor exited the skin.
It didn't bleed as much as I thought it would. It was a relatively superficial cut. I'm glad it was :|
I think most of us here have done similarly; I know I have. Oddly enough it was with the easier pass - WTG. I was shaving down my cheek and the heal of the razor caught the edge of my mustache causing the blade to go sideways. I simply wasn't paying enough attention to what I was doing. Sigh... I rubbed it in the dirt and finished my shave. :D
Thanks everyone for "being with me" on these ego thumping moments. It's good to know I'm not alone if and when I bleed. This thread has got me thinking. Maybe we can have a permanent place on our forum where everyone, noobs and Veterans, can place their razor wounds and stories. It could be used as a tool to show noobies that everyone draws blood from time to time. And thus keeping their confidence up, especially when a senior, mentor or mod gets involved. well as i noticed at my first shave my ear is much to close to the face (take a guess)
second time i was extra careful untill i noticed the left ear is just as close :p
I feel for you man, it completely ruins your shave. I've done similar though not quite as bad, just at the end of a shave through being clumsy. Hasn't happened in a while but when it did i was like 'please no!' after it happened, then the slit turned red half a second later. Bet the alum killed it
Aww, that ain't so bad. Least you still gots all yer parts and it ain't too deep. Just think of what could have happened. Welcome to our club. Lot's of us here.
You haven't truly experienced a straight razor shave without giving yourself a battle wound to share with other's. I wear my scar with pride. I had atleast a hundred shave's with a straight when my razor bit me. As I was stretching the skin of my cheek my hand slipped and the skin retracted in the middle of a stroke with the razor. My eyebrows shot up to my hairline when I saw the damage. Good times! Great thread!
