XTG...huh...
When I learned to straight shave, I did it just like I had done with my M3....WTG, ATG, and a combo of XTG and clean-up. It's worked fine for many months. Tonight, I thought, why not do it like everyone else and go WTG, XTG, ATG and do each of the passes at the same speed I do with the WTG pass. You know what...it worked just as well as my other method but knocked ten minutes off the shave!:gwh:

I never shaved XTG until I started wetshaving either. Heck I thought I was being a rebel and breaking all the rules by shaving ATG. When I started out I skipped the XTG too seeing as how I managed without it before.
I got decent shaves from just the 2 passes and then I decided to try and integrate the XTG into my routine. I never looked back I use the XTG every-time unless I'm in a real hurray and my shaves have never been better :)

Personally I try and do as much as I can with one pass only and I get there by doing as much XTG as I can at the start!
XTG is, for me at least, the magical pass. You get ATG results with WTG irritation! Brilliant!

I always do WTG on the first pass and a combination of XTG and ATG on the second. I do not do a third pass as it isn't necessary and I've got things to do and people to see. :) I cannot recall what I did with the Gillette "Good News" disposable that I used for a coupld of decades but I would have never ever dreamed of doing a second pass.

I agree with Jimmy about the passes.
I wouldn't dream of doing a second pass with a disposable. Shaving with a straight was enlightening to me in that respect ... among others.
My second pass is a mix of ATG and WTG and I can crank out a good 2 pass shave in about 10 minutes.

I used to do only WTG and ATG, but throwing the XTG in the middle helped cut down irritation for me, strangely enough. The ATG without XTG is a little tough, probably because my face looks like a brillo pad if I don't shave for a week.
