I agree... for many people getting started and learning the right technique is very hard and 'learning' from youtube is great but it cant see what youre doing wrong...
If some 'advanced' members were to create some sort of shaving clinic for the region and had a class fee Im sure there would be a lot of interest especially from the people just beginning to learn...

Search for people in your area and start sending PM's. The large majority would be more than willing to meet up with you and share knowledge. I encourage ever veteran straight shaver to open their doors and help us new people out. I met up with a member in my area and it has been a great help. When I feel confident and well-experienced, if I can return the favor and help a newcomer I will.
i think this is a great idea check the member map and see who is closet to you and send them a pm. i live in longiville la. and would be glad to help out .

I opened and ran an informal school for a few years. I ended up with about 20 students over the years. It was a lot of fun. I was always surprised at how hard it was to teach honing. Even after showing people what to do, they would grab hone and razor and then dull the blade. I couldn't even see what they were doing wrong. It was very strange.
Most of my "clients" have been civil war reenactors.
I've always wanted to emphasize the importance of experience. But I recommend anyone jumping in and having little mini-get togethers. Its wicked fun.
I live in Yonkers just out in Westchester so all the NYC folks. Its nice that people are willing to help and I will certainly help in any way I can. The SRP store woudl be a great idea though.

Yes, ANYONE that gets a chance to go to the closest regional meet, do it. They're just great. A great group of people who share the same quirky misunderstood interest. What's not to love?
If I lived in a more populated area, I've often thought that I would almost certainly conduct a community education course on collecting, stropping, honing and shaving. I don't think I'd get many takers where I'm at. I'm happy sticking with the occasional meets.
