Hey Everyone!
I have had three shaves so far, first one, i had no nicks or cuts, but my next two i cut myself when i started progressing to my chin and neck. Every time i nick myself its always with the toe, does anyone have any tips on avoiding the nicking myself with the toe, apart from practice.

Assuming it's a spike or square point blade,you can slightly round off the corner of the toe on a hone or emery cloth.Just a tiny bit so it keeps it's spike look,but doesn't "Bite" so much.
It is just telling you, you are not paying enough attention to your blade, always know where your whole blade is, not just the part you are currently using.
Rounding off the corner usually solves this problem. This is a common area of concern. The way I shave under my chin and jaw makes it almost mandatory that the corner be rounded. Spike razors are not my favorite.

If you are using a spike or square tip practice and diligence are necessary to prevent nicks and cuts. Even then, you will probably get one every once in a while. I know I do:)
I find that the best way to keep nick free is to focus on where the toe of the razor is, even if you are shaving with the heel of the blade.
Shoot, I had to dull the heel a slight bit. Sharpened it too far back and kept cutting my thumb when griping the tang to shave especially when switching hands.
I'm not one who favors altering the blade to suit a lack of control during shaving. Afterall if you buy a car with alot of horsepower do you learn to go easy on the gas or cut off two cylinders?
You just need to mind those edges.
Yeah i get exactly what you mean!!! Oh well, luckily my face can grow back :P. But even from shave 2 to shave 3, i noticed more control :D. Also dont want to undo all of Oz's fine work on my blade :D

Dulling the first 1/16" of a spike or less, just slightly, would probably not be noticeable. When you get comfortable re hone it. But you will get used to it sooner than you think if you leave it sharp. As a matter of fact, dulling it now might make you careless later when you sharpen it and then you would get nicks again. In the end it is up to you but there is a certain amount of pride in being able to use one the right way.
You have to really "manage" the toe. You have to be very careful not to apply any pressure toward the tip of the blade. You can't be aggressive at all. This makes the shave take a longer time. If you were to try a round point, you probably wouldn't want to go back any time soon.

Yeah that makes sense :D, but i would rather learn by taking the shave slow, instead of modifying the razor, but thats just me :D. I dont mind getting nicks if it means im learning, but if i was shaving someone else, and i was learning still, i would probably dull the toe a bit lol. . My first car is a Toyota Starlet, 4 cylinder 1.6L, i love her. It will be sad to see her go :(, but she will be replaced by a s14, maybe an s15 if i can get enough money together lol.

When i get my starlet (4 cylinder 1.6l bubble car), i took her to empty car parks and deserted roads with no houses to practicing skidding, ddrifting and getting out of skids and slides, it has saved me many times :D. Im glad the first car i got wasnt powerful or fast, it will make me have a special appreciation for a fast and powerful car when i hopefully get one :D

EDIT: I drive manual, wont get an auto lol, and my current car has no power steering or ABS breaks or anything lol, but she is reliable! Never had a problem with her in like 6 years :D, gotta love toyota :D
This might sound a bit weird, but try putting your fingers in front of the blade when you stretch. You tend to pay more attention to the blade when it is approaching your fingers. Also, it may stop you taking longer strokes than is advisable.
It's kinda like catching a ball. If you make sure you put your face in the way of it, you are much more likely to catch it and save yourself a ball in the face! :)
