"Be the blade"
I always say this to people wwho say they are afraid theyy would cut their throat shaving.... Don't you think you would stop?.. It's not like you keep sawing when you knick your self.. It is a razor...
newbie here. and first post for 2014.
really grateful tips here!
im learning a lot and started to recommend all my friends to SRs.
I find all of these to be correct; especially fear. That is really good for living life in general.
Some great advice here- I'll add a few observations
1) grip the razor well- be in charge of it- if you are not sure where that pesky handle should be do a few false strokes on the face to see if you have clearance- if not adjust your grip.
2) relax and concentrate- take your time and enjoy it.
3) don't overshave- if you can't get to a few places touch up with a DE, you do have one don't you? If not get one and learn to shave with it!
4) get up earlier before work and shave with time in your hand- you'll purr for the rest of the day.
5) if your mind is not on it just use a DE- no sin in that!
6) shock horror- I can only shave right handed, so what- get your technique right and it matters not.
Above all enjoy the experience
They don't call it the art of shaving for nothing. A true artist strives for perfection and enjoys the journey in search of the perfect shave, except for the razor rash, nicks and cuts. Enjoy the moment when you know you've just had the perfect shave.
should add: If you wish to get the most out of straight shaving, GET HELP!
read about it.
ask about it.
watch videos.
understand WHY things are done.
get a mentor.
meet people who can show you things.
compare information.
and when you think you know it all, go read some more.
A lot of useful advice here.
Enjoyed the reading.
:)
Excellent advice and inspiring for me who has let straight razor shaving fall to the wayside in the last few months! Thanks!
