Rainy Day.
It was a terrible day for weather here at the cottage....but....it ended up being a pretty great day for hobbies.
I dismantled a Shumate Barber (my favourite shaver), and handsanded the entire piece. I've been meaning to do it for a while now. I replaced the scales with a pair made from red Pakkawood. I don't have all the tools to make my own at this point, so these were purchased. I pinned it, and for the first time, I think I did a great job mushrooming the end.
Here's why I didn't post this in the workshop area.
I realized after a late afternoon shower, and a shave with one of my others, that I'm at a point now where one pass is so good and so smooth I am stymied to think why I ever shaved with anything else. It's such a great feeling. My lather is thick, my technique has improved tenfold from my beginnings, and my post shave rarely requires alum or styptic. The shave was with another resto.
Its a nice feeling to shave with a razor that your purchased in a poor state, brought back to life, honed, and are proud to look at (even if your close friends don't understand your hobby).
My thoughts for the day,
Maxi
Happy shaving.

Gotta agree. There's a sense of accomplishment to buy a razor that won't even cut hair on your arm at the antique store, get it cleaned and honed to perfection. Then the waiting starts...I'm usually shaved for the day when I complete a project and then you just sit their anxiously waiting for the whiskers to grow. :)

Thanks for sharing & I fully understand the feeling of shaving with a razor that you bring back to life.

There is nothing like a rainy day for accomplishing goals. Everyone elses expectations of you drop and it's like getting a free day.

Thats very true....you can dissapear on a rainy day, and no one bothers you, even when they realize that you've dissapeared! Weed eating has to wait for another day.
