worst shave in 4 months!

I got back my blade from my usual honemeister...and..I think..actually..pretty sure..I didn't strop enough times...the whole day I was REALLY hot, tired, slept 2 hours in the afternoon..but i didn't feel any better when I awoke..so I thought I would give my newly re honed blade a try..thinking this would "wake up" my face and mind...I really didn't focus on how many times I strop'd my blade..just stroped n went for a shave..man it wasn't good!..no blood--thank g-d..but my face was pretty razor burn'd after 4 passes..yea alot..the blade just barely touched anything...my face went from 2 days beard growth to 1 day..annoying...thoughts? :banghead:

Try a polar bear shave? It was pretty hot up here in Portland for a little while and my shaves during that time were my worst. I tried a polar bear shave towards the end of the wave and it was fantastic for the heat. I know it's gotta be quite a bit worse heat-wise down there but same basic principle.

Also, you said you didn't pay attention to how many times you stropped, maybe you were inattentive enough that you rolled the edge or something? Or even you were tired and off your game enough that your technique was just that bad for the day? Just a couple thoughts.

+1 on the polar bear shave.. i'm in los angeles and it's africa hot.. i have been waiting till around 1 or 2pm to do my shave and i'm loving it.. i set the kids down for a nap and take a nice james bond shower.. then i superlather with soaptopia's eucalyptus and c.o. bigelow.. i always finish with a cold water splash and an ice cube rub.. i also want to fill a scuttle with ice water.. but havn't tried it yet.. normally i use bay rum or old spice.. but i've just been using witch hazel and aloe vera after.. i have even been using my DE and soaking it in cold water while i shower.. the merkur hd feels nice and cool against my hollywood face as i'm shaving.. i really want to get some of that alcolado glacial stuff.

for some reason i have been staying away from my artist club the last few days.. i'm not sure why.. but i have been hesitant to shave with it.. just a feeling i have that i can't ignore.. i have never had a bad shave with it.. but for some reason i took 4 days off from shaving and when i returned i felt as if i wasn't ready to get back to the artist club.. i've learned to always trust my gut.. plus the de is nice when it gets cool..

You are probably still working on your technique and max likes to make his razors laser sharp.

I'd say that you were over-tired and your stropping was subpar. Same thing can happen if you try stropping after too many beers.

You'd be amazed at the difference proper stropping brings to a shave. When you are feeling rested, strop the crap out of the razor and try again. I'm willing to bet it goes a lot better for you.

hilarious man!...after beers..not that im a drinker or anything close but yea..makes sense..I shave in the afternoons usually or about 11am..I am a big fan of Dr. Oz...coming from his Q&A..I agree..

I thought a polar bear shave was when its cold in the bathroom..lol..I have some bright lights and as usual open a window for a breeze.

What can I say, I'm Canadian! Not that I'd recommend doing such a thing to all you boys and girls.....:w

i'm not afforded the luxury these days.. but i thoroughly enjoy a beer while in the shower.. and a beer after the shave. of course.. you never want to shave while loaded.. but one or two before the lathering is nice.

I once had a shave like yours...I was tired and not much sleep. Skin/face feels less rested and more puffy when unrested. The heat is another annoyance (it has been extremely HOT in SoCal). Turn the air on and enjoy a hot shower.
