Anyone ever dry shave with a str8 razor with good results?
Sounds like a recipe for razor burn of titanic proportions!
The closest I've ever come was touch up pass using no soap and vitamin E oil. Not bad but I really do prefer full soap passes. Dry shaving is right out.
Never tried and never will :nono:
anyone ever fallen off a bike/skateboard/rollerskates and scraped your face against the pavement?
My father-in-law used to shave dry with a disposable Bic razor. He used the very same razor for about six months until it dawned on him, this was a disposable razer, he could actually dispose of it! He claimed it had been a little rough lately but still OK by his standards. Needless to say he was excited when he inherited my Mach 3, when I moved on to DE and str8s. Does he use it dry as well? I don't know, and I think I don't want to know! ;-)
To answer the OP's question: unless you have a death wish, don't try it! :D
No, and I never will for all of the above reasons. It would not be enjoyable in the slightest.
What I have done before is missed a hair or two and taken care of them dry. Whether or not you can call this shaving is debatable, it certainly was nothing near a full shave.
In university one of my flatmates shaved with a disposable bic razor dry. I watched him in disgust once or twice as he used to leave the door open. The results I should imagine were far from that clean cut BBS which I achieve. IMHO there really is nothing quite like BBS, especially with a straight razor. The feeling for me is the highest level of cleanliness. YMMV
A couple of times. I first did it as a way to check whether the razor I was sharpening was getting sharper, and the next thing I knew I'd shaved my whole face. I didn't find it painful at all. Over time I guess I've done it about a dozen times. After a while I thought I'd try it in the morning to see if I could learn something useful or some new techniques, but found it quite painful. So my experience is - it seems to work well after some oil has built up in your skin which in my case takes all day.
