Anyone join you yet?

Most of the people i hang with know that i shave with a straight,and when we go to a party ,the straight topic always comes up. More than a few times i have been asked to bring some of my shaving stuff, for a little show and tell. So i show them how to make lather and how to hold a straight and a little history and the diff grinds,and everyone is amazed and very interested and asking alot of questions BUT do you think i can even get ONE person to come over to the dark side and try a straight!! HELL NO !!!!! Have any of you folks had any luck??

I got my wife to try, and consequently use, a DE. No luck converting anyone to straights, though. I usually get the that sounds pretty cool but only a crazy person would try it looks.

Nope, no luck at all. Most people will have a passing interest in my shaving hobby, but that's about it. I suspect that they don't put much thought into shaving and have convinced themselves that whatever they use (to get a sub par shave in 1.5 minutes) is good enough.

I got ONE of my friends to pick it up. Although his interest was peaked by a magazine article he had read about it, I was happy to give him one to try. That was about a year ago and he's still going. Just wish he'd catch the RAD so I'd have more to ogle.

My son in law just started with straights.

I've worked on a few & gotten them to shave a few times, but they have decided on the middle with a DE for the biggest part.

i was able to convert my oldest son to the dark side and when he comes over or i visit there we shave as brothers.and a friend of mine a pro. juggler who has a full body beard was infected.they have not yet contracted rad and are shaving with razors that i gave them both for over a year now and i am always amazed at how sharp they have been able to keep there razors with very simple strops no need for even a touch up yet.hint if you are in the poisition of giving a man his frist razor give him something good one that you will miss. most of us have far too many anyhow

I have converted two fols so far, gimpyalex, and a guy from work, I gave gimpyalex a razor and he seems to have developed a small case of the RAD

My Brother. I shaves with a DE 99% of the time, but now hes throwing a Dovo into the mix. We bought it for him at Christmas.

He just found the joy of Boar Brushes. Put the Simpson Duke 3 to the side...

I gave my dad an ERN straight razor that I had, which he uses on the weekends. I also got my brother a DE for his birthday.

So I've converted two so far.

I'm working on other guys at the moment, including a guy who works with my other half lol..! :D I might PIF him a razor to try and see if I can get him hooked.

I've converted all 3 of my teenage kids to DE's and my ex-brother-in-law. I've given my son a straight razor shave a few times, but he looks at shaving in general at being on par with toe-nail clipping; something that needs to be done, but as quickly and infrequently as possible.
Generally anyone that learns about my straight razor hobby thinks I'm nuts.:confused:
They just don't get it.....

well to be honest it takes a special kind of nut to enjoy putting a truely sharp piece of steel to ther throats every morning and then tell other people how much they enjoy it.:soapbox:

Im trying hard to get converts, with two prospects on the way both have asked for me to give them straight shaves but as I only have 4 weeks experiance myself I'm holding off till I have a better grasp. I would hate for their first experiance with a straight shave to be full of nicks and cuts and scare them away for life. Any tips on how shaving others differers from shaving yourself?

None to straights. My wife and a friend to DEs. As everyone else has said, people are really interested - but like in a watching "Hannibal Lecter behind the glass" sort of way.:)

I'm trying to convert a co-worker's husband. While at a party at our house, I showed him my straight shaving equipment. He is fascinated but is reluctant to take the plunge. His wife bought him a nice brush and soap for Father's Day. He works out of his home and isn't on a tight schedule so time shouldn't be an issue. He's looked at the wiki & SRP some according to his wife. I'm being patient - don't want to spook him:).

Another friend asked to watch me shave. While our wives prepared dinner, he watched me shave. I'll have to admit, I was amused when out of the corner of my eye I saw him cringe when I was going ATG on my neck. He thinks straight shaving is really cool but said that he couldn't see himself doing it every day - possibly on the weekends. Just need to get a razor in his hands...

I've gotten one, but to be honest he approached me saying he wanted to learn after he found out I used them. Didn't really take any convincing on my part.

The only person I semi-converted was the wife. Although she refuses to use it herself, I shave her every sunday.
