Default I missed a couple of days.

Ever since I got back from camping on sunday I haven't gotten to bed before 2 AM therefore I haven't shaved. So now it has been almost 5 days since I have had the pleasure of looking like a civilized human.
I can vividly remember my first straight shave. I had a full beard and mustache and have not had this much growth since. Any suggestions for making this a truly enjoyable experience? I have had a couple shaves with 2 days growth and generally have had a rough shave. Any ideas why this was? This really hasn't been an issue until now. There is a really good chance that it won't be any trouble at all, but I just wanted thoughts or even some ribbing regarding my lack of personal attention. I welcome any and all responses.
BTW I do have extremely sensitive skin.

I actually enjoy having some nice growth before a shave as it gives me good reason to use one of my two larger Sheffield blades. I have fairly sensitive skin as well -- as long as your razor is sharp and your technique is sound there shouldn't be any problems.

I took a smaller video of myself shaving last Halloween. It was probably almost 4 weeks worth of growth and was honestly quite fun watching all that fuzz just melt off from the edge:

    Default Take it easy

Why not take it in stages? Good prep, then a single WTG
    pass.

See how that goes, give your face a rest, and finish up
with a second, more thorough shave later.

Thanks for reposting that video. I have a very fast growing beard and it is hard too. To give you an idea; in this past week I have almost 75% of the growth you show in the video.

I recently visited my Dad, and he wanted to see me shave with a straight razor. I decided to build up a weeks worth of growth.

When I finally shaved for him, I made my first stroke a long sideburn run from ear to chin. When he saw all that hair come off, he just said, "wow...."

IME when shaving off long growth it is especially important to spend extra time working the lather into your beard and face. If you don't the lather will sit on top of your beard and will hardly touch your skin at all. An ultra sharp razor is also best to use (although that just goes without saying around here).

BWT commiecat - that was quite the look you had after the shave, even for Halloween. Ever see the movie Bronson by any chance?

I found shaving my chin beard was really easy - just came away without any effort. Don't remember doing any exta special preparation.

At least with straight you don't have to worry about it getting clogged up with hairs like you do on your multi-blades.

I'll be going away for a 9 day hike soon, so I'll have a hairy shave to look forward to too!

    Prep tips?
Make sure your blade is nicely stropped before the shave.
Pay attention while you're shaving, in case it catches.

    All the best,
    Michael

I recently missed a few days too. My girlfriend went missing in India and I was too worried to shave. It was the first time in about two years that I haven't shaved in the morning. It really was great though to have a little growth and put a chopper to good use.
I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

Looking/being civilized is so over rated...but if you insist, as I like to say, "Technique, technique, technique" All else is gravy!

I like gravy by the way!
