I was shaving this morning and as I was working against the grain on my neck, I discovered by accident that, if I anchored my razor hand on my neck using the first knuckles, I could better maintain a precise shaving angle. The results were that it was the first successful ATG pass under my neck, and my first DFS with a str8! My concern is that I don't want to start a bad habit that will get me in trouble or hinder me down the line. Any thoughts? Thanks.
No need to worry about being judged on your technique. It's not a bad habit unless it results in irritation or cuts. If neither are a problem, by all means continue. I'm not sure how long you've been using a SR but it sounds like you're already developing your own personal technique. Congrats!
I've been str8 shaving starting about 6 weeks ago, but exclusively for the last 3 weeks.
Establishing a good fulcrum is a great idea and I've found ways to get a good one for just about every stroke. Keep up the good work.
I don't know why I had it in my head that you have to glide the blade down the path freehand. The problem with that is you are using your lats which are not very precise. I can't wait to find more fulcrums!

Ya, it's a fine line between having the confidence to slide a cold steel razor within an eight of an inch of your jugular during a nice shave and leaving your bathroom looking like a shotgun massacre scene.Quote:
