This happened earlier this evening. I applied a styptic pencil, and if I didn't it probably wouldn't have ever stopped bleeding. I've only been shaving about 6 weeks or so, and now the wife is pretty concerned. Overconfidence is a bad, bad thing...

The good news is if you keep antibiotic ointment and a bandage on it, the cuts from a straight are so clean it'll heal without scarring. Just don't let it dry out!
how did you even manage a cut that big?
must have been that sword fight at dawn eh?
Ouch! Yep, keep some antibiotic ointment and a bandage on it and it should heal fine. On the plus side, the area of your cheek just above & below the cut looks really smooth.:)
If your co-workers ask how you got it tell them,"you should see the other guy." :D Read my sig line below and it may help you avoid mishaps in the future. :gl:
at least you didn't cut your ear like me lol. my cut took awhile to stop bleeding, styptic pen did't do much for me. good news is you will have a cool scare :)
That looks Awesome...
But seriously I feel your pain. Had a scar almost as long as the blade, but only a few cells deep, didn't really bleed. Needless to say, everyone soon found out I was shaving with a straight.
I scar really badly from cuts but you know even the worst cuts I sustained as a newb never scarred. As we say down here "She'll be right mate " :D
I had a pretty big cut about a two months ago that actually left a distinct line I thought was going to scar. The line faded in about a month.
Swords for two and coffee for one...I'll ask the razor how the coffee tasted! :D
You'll have to tell the missus she's to use another room if she plans on undressing in future :) .
Mick
I seem to keep cutting the same place with the same razor just about every time I use it. The place is on my cheek and the cut makes me look like a G.I.Joe.
yep pays to stay on the ball , I cant speak got a few good one's meself but as said above she'll be right mate !
On the upside, it looks like you are getting some decent shaves at least, going by the closeups.:)
Buy some vitamin E and brub it on the scar...It will dissapear quicker....Old school remedy from my more rowdy days.
I took a nice chunk out of my left jaw line two Friday’s ago with a freshly honed square/spike point. It was so sharp I hardly felt it cut. I’m on so many blood thinners for health reasons that sometimes the styptic pencil is not enough to stop the bleeding. I kept a little Neosporin “Neo To Go!” ® spray container on it to help heal. There is still a small scar, but nothing compared to the chunk it was.
That’ll teach me to try new angles with a soap not used before, and a freshly honed blade.
Looks like the work of a spike-point. They cut, then dig, then cut. Line-Hole-Line
I've got a 4" scar on my side just above my waist. I used to occasionally get asked how I got it and I found that it was easier to lie and say it was from a tree limb in the woods, since the truth was, there was this sheep...
Yup, I was laying on top of a sheep and she kicked me...
:w
OK, if anyone wants to believe me, I was trimming the hooves of a sheep and one of the hooves I had already trimmed turned out to have ended up in a pretty sharp point. While I was working on one of the other hooves she kicked at my side and gave me a pretty good slice. It hurt but I didn't realize how bad it was till I finished up the last foot and stood up to let her go. The guy I was working with looked at me and acted like he was about to pass out. It turned out that I already had blood soaking the side of my jeans all the way to my boots. The hoof was sharp enough that it cut quite deeply and left a pretty good scar.
I considered a knife fight explanation for the scar, but that would lead to further elaboration of a lie and I didn't want to do that, so I usually stuck with the tree limb story. Scar stories usually involved being disrobed with equally disrobed young women, and somehow, I just didn't want to bring my history with sheep into the conversation!
