For those of us who are getting long in tooth I'm just curious how you handle this situation.
You see you start getting what I'll call these rogue hairs. They come in here and there and they are like hairzilla like 4x the diameter of normal whiskers and even the best razors balk at shaving them. My wife wants to use tweezers to pull them out:eek: and now every time I see her with a pair of tweezers I head for the hills.
What do ya'll think?
Hide the tweezers.
Buy a bigger razor.

+1 on honing. There is no reason that a straight can't just cut a bodacious swath through any hair...dang it.....guess bodacious dates me for Old whatever!:cry:

I can kinda relate. Some of my whiskers are now pure white, 2-3x normal and tough! However, I do not have a problem shaving them with my Str8 razors.
I think that as we get older ( age 61 here) we will get more & more of the tough buzzard whiskers ( I have anyway)! If yours are posing a significant problem then I would allow your wife to help with the tweezers.
No sense damaging a perfectly good edge!:)
Yea, these rogue hairs aren't normal hairs. yea the straight cuts them alright but when it does you can actually hear this ping sound and you can feel them as they are cut and believe me my straights are sharp.

If they are in my ears, I pluck them. If they are on my
face, I shave them.
The only alternative that I can think of...in terms of
permanent removal...is some sort of lasor treatment.
Lot's of that sort of thing is available...at least in the
States.

I like to wash my face in battery acid...that usually works. Then finish off with the alum and a little Pinaud,and it's off to the races !!:roflmaoYes I know...i'm goin to go somewhere that will involve a handbasket and it aint to gramaws ! Pull zem out I say !!
maybe try going over that bit with a DE then shave as you would. works for me when im shaving tuff bits.

Maybe a big sheffield wedge could help? Or you're going to have to hide the tweezers!

The problem with plucking, is that women pluck their eyebrows, but that's different type of hair. Plucking face hair can damage the folicle and pores, producing a permanent source of inflammation.
So I'm for cutting it. Maybe just a big sharp wedge razor? or a little bitty one, even a Feather Nape and Neck razor.

An unfortunate "coming of age" (vintage) male phenomenon. Not one of the worst, by any means! My wife hides the tweezers in her hand and sneaks up on me. Hurts less right after a shower, with the hairs softened BTW!
Reminds me of a scene in "the fly" where he starts his transformation with these hairs that start coming out on his back which are so tough a razor won't cut them.
Hmm, I have a strange craving for sugar.
I cut 'em close with a hacksaw, then drive 'em in with a hammer and bite 'em off from the inside.
Pluck 'em or nuke 'em!!!!!
I hate those things. Got a vision of when I was a kid looking at my Grandpa and he had so much hair in his ear that it looked like a birds nest. Did I say I hate those things!!!!!! Old age is not my freeend...........

I get some unusually thick-looking hairs as well, and when I pluck them, I find that it's two or three (!) separate hairs in the same pore.
...I'm not the only one, right?
Well, your lucky because you have 3 or 4 hairs in the same pore. I have one hair thicker than 4 hairs in the same pore.Quote:

Anyway, I get this mutant hair growing out of the bridge of my nose, not out the bottom, no spider coming out of the drain pipe action...but out the bridge...My Gf is an Electronic's Tech, She's really good with tools, and has a Gerber multi plier, She's actually used it in lieu of tweezer's on my unicorn hair thingy..:chop:

Those that are in my mustache and on my ears I cut with a pair of mustache scissors.

Getting older is still better than the alternative.
Luckily no ear-hair yet. Nose hairs get plucked.
I do have some hair growing on my shoulder and back, but my wife (and now my daughter :)) nukes them with my wife's epilady. Yes it hurts, but at least they're gone for a good while.
I'm not quite an olde fogie yet, however I do have a few of those wonderful super giant hairs along some scar tissue on my chin.
I could get them using a "regular" 5/8 hollow grind using multiple passes... found that an 8/8 or larger wedge takes em off with no slowdown at all.
Or you could just tweeze... as mentioned, softened from a shower eases the tear inducing / vison blurring seconds after the pluck.
Aint getting old a bee-otch!?!? The openings to my ears get those birdsnest hairs that seem to have roots down to the skull. I usually try to pluck them. I also get a thick, dark one on the top of my right ear and on the front of my left ear towards the temple. Pluck them out too. Later guys. Rich.
