Hey everyone,
I've been using a Fromm razor for over 2 years and loved it. Unfortunetly, the blade is rusted out at the base so I'm lookin for a good new razor for daily use, no fancy handle necessary. I've been looking over the DOVO Carbon Steel 5/8 from Vintage Blades LLC , since I believe my Fromm was made of the same metal. Any pointers?
Also, I live in Oregon so the humidity is pretty high, any treatments to prevent rust?

Dovo is a fine choice of new razor, and at a good price point too. If rust/humidity is a concern you should be oiling your blade after every use before you store it away. Mineral oil works well, but you can also use gun oil or camillia, which is common but a bit more costly.
Another idea is to buy a stainless steel blade, which is rust resistant but not rust proof. It would be wise to oil an INOX blade too.

Just make sure the razor is totally dry before putting it away and if humidity is an issue coat it in oil.
The razor you are looking at is a quality piece that should serve you well.
You should be drying your blade thoroughly after every shave. Oiling it wouldn't hurt either.

Unless you are a carbon steel purist, just get a stainless steel razor.
here is a thought to help prevent rusting.. I use 5 in 1 or clipper care on all of my clippers and my razor. It is a light spray lubricant, disinfectant, cleaner and other stuff all in one. The light lubricant doesnt let the blades rust.

If humidity is a big issue for you, go with a stainless steel blade. There are a lot of good choices out there.

can't say that I have been able to try a stainless blade, but I have a Dovo carbon steel and it is a great shaver. You can't go wrong with a Dovo so long as it's from a good establishment.
have you tried wiping the blade with oil? The summers where I live are super humid, and I had a bit of time finding a way to keep my razors safe. make sure they are truly dry (tissue works great) and then wipe it with cloth that has a little camellia oil on it. Worked great for me.

On care/storage: Utopian has the most inspired method I've come across. Denatured (not isopropyl) alchohol - put in a seal-able container. Add 1 Tbsp mineral oil. 'Likely will takes days of periodic agitation & there's no prob if it doesn't all disolve - it'll just look like it has a puddle on the bottom. After thorough rinse and wipe (getting all the rust-causing soap off is important), strop, dip in alch/oil solution and let air dry. The alch evaporates, leave a coating of oil so thin you don't have to wipe off to use again. Just strop again & shave.
