The First Shave
Hi everyone, well I just finished my first SR shave and it went much better than I expected. I got my Porrasso soap, strop, Ogalala bay rum and sandelwood aftershave, styptic pen and super witch hazel all lined up took a shower and then let er rip. I have been practicing with a dull razor so I had a little bit of an idea but it was still hard putting a sharp one to the face. I also watched alot of the videos of shaveing which was very helpful. I really liked Jockeys videos and remembered to use a light touch. I started with the sideburns and cheeks and could not stop myself from continuing further. I hadent shaved for three days so I had somthing good to shave off. I was nervous around my mouth the upper lip and on my neck because it felt like it would be so easy to cut there so i didnt shave very well in those areas but I didnt hack myself up. After the first WTG done I lathered up again and went WTG again and the second time around it was much smoother and easyer to shave. I finished with my regular razor put on the witch hazel and bay rum and it felt great. I really love this and as all the new guys have said before I cant thank everyone here enough for all the help and advice that us newbies can get on this site. It is priceless and I cant wait for my next shave in the morning.

Welcome aboard! Sounds like things are off to a good start. The upper lip can be tricky, but not as much as the chin. The thing to remember is strech the skin and maintain a good angle w/ light pressure. Of course, this is true for SR shaving in general. Don't try to do too much too soon, as this is when things will go to **** and your face will look like fresh ground sirloin.
Welcome to your new obsession.

Congrats rgc59! It will take you about 20-30 shaves before you start to feel comfortable...seems you've got it all covered...just practice, practice and practice!

Great job! I've been at it for almost two years, and I'm still learning. Enjoy the ride.

Fantastic! I've only been at this for about a month now, and it took over a week to stop butchering my face. I find that I get much closer not WTG than I did just a week ago and the lighter I stroke, the closer I get. This is fun!
Keep up the good work.
