Holy crap! that thing is sharp!!!

It shaves great, but you need to use less pressure than you do with a normal straight razor. No nicks or cuts, but my face kinda burns. Doesn't feel quite like razor burn, but man its easy to get irritation if you're not careful.

I have a question about the angle though. Does the blade need to almost lay flat against the face, or do you need to keep a 30 degree angle from the face of the blade (the flat side of the part that holds the disposable blade) to the face?

I had to shave so lightly that it was a little tricky to make clean passes. I'm sure that I'll get it with practice, but this thing feels like it would make Sweeny Todd run for his life.

i'm strictly an ac user and yes.. lay the blade much flatter than you would any other straight.. instead of the standard 30 degrees.. go with 5..

keep a very light touch... pretend you're shaving with a lightsaber.

The way it cuts feels different than a normal straight. A normal razor tends to 'drag' more than this one, so the AC will feel like it drags if the angle is similar to a normal straight. It almost feels like its not cutting at a shallow angle (less than 30 degrees) but the hair disappears.

From everything I've read, the Feather AC has the same edge as a Feather double-edge blade.

Very, very light pressure is needed. Anything more, and it'll take off a layer of skin -- real razor burn!

The angle of the blade is measured from the centerline of the blade, not the side. 30 degrees between the side of the blade holder and your face is too much. I would suggest leaving about a spine width gap between the spine of the razor and your face.

Oh yeah, its a sharp one and always use very light pressure on new blades and the first two shaves. I am usually between 15% - 30% degrees depending on what works best for that section. It has been a long time since I used my Feather.

I give you credit for trying the AC. I have never used one, but I heard how sharp it is.

    Gentlemen:

I have the Feather Artist Club and find it a great razor — for what it is. Sometimes I take it on trips in my wet pack as a backup for a regular straight razor. Yes, to tame the razor, you must keep the angle low.

I've heard of people "corking" the blade to dull it a little so its not so brutally sharp. Is this a good idea? If doing it, how many times do you run the blade through the cork?

    Hello, Salazch:

I do an occasional corking of the Feather double edge razor blade. One gentle swipe of the blade edges on the cork is plenty. For the Artist Club straight razor blade, however, I do no corking whatsoever. Perhaps others do.

    Regards,

    Obie
