Humbling Return to the Pipe!

This morning, I returned to my 5/8 Wostenholm Pipe razor. I had forgotten what a superb razor it is. Unfortunately, I also forgot that, being between a quarter hollow and a near wedge, it works its magic rather silently without the feedback of a full hollow ground.

Not hearing the accustomed sounds of "scraping dry toast," I began to push down. You got it! I wound up with four nice little nicks. Just because it's silent, doesn't mean it's not "very, very sharp!" After four months of experience, I thought I was past all those weepers, nicks, and bleeders. Apparently, not true!

In spite of my stupidity, it was still a great shave. BBS in two passes. I would have to rate this Wostenholm as one of my best razors.

That's good to know! :) I've got one I'm cleaning up at the moment and I'm really looking forward to shaving with it.

Yup, those Wosty's take a mean edge, and hold an edge for a long time too. I've had mine for 2 years and have only touched it up once.

As for the cuts, don't worry, comes with the territory. As you gain more SR experience you will automatically adjust your technique, no matter what type of razor you are using on a given day.

It was bound to happen. It had been almost two and a half weeks of shaves without blood. You start to feel invincible. LOL! Nothing like a straight razor to "cut" you down to size.

I am not particularly upset by the cuts, it just goes with the territory. I have to self-inject a medication every two weeks and that hurts a lot more than a razor cut. The self-injecting pen seems to have a bigger than usual needle.
