This is bad, very bad.

I figured I was getting a little too rotund and so decided to drop some weight. So after losing about 25lbs and don't get me wrong I feel like a million bucks now and look better but now I have a very serious issue.

My face has changed. Areas that were out are now in and others especially on my neck are really different and lately I'm getting something I haven't experienced in many years, razor burn. So now I basically have to figure out how to shave with a straight all over again. I have to change all my angles and strokes and even stretching. This ain't fun.

Maybe I should put a post on the rookies forum and ask for help-Har har.

But you are right. Loosing that kind of weight will surely affect the tautness and contours on your face.

I'm ashamed to say that, due to some recent surgery and subsequent immobility, I have gone the other way. I've gained 10 or 12 pounds, and I notice that on my face as well.

Maybe you can get some face implants. :-)

That is exactly why I'm very careful about my weight.

If it becomes difficult to shave I go to McDonalds immediately.

In addition to a job well done on the weight loss (I've been trying to drop some for s bit, too but the only thing that gets lighter is my wallet), I would just like to take this opportunity to, in a Nelson Muntz voice, say "Haw haw!" in regards to the razor burn.

I feel your pain!!!!!!!!! I've dropped right at 40 pounds since November and I can tell a difference in my shaves, too. Though I haven't started with the good stuff (i.e. still using my Fusion), I noticed a difference in how everything was oriented and now have to stretch places I never had to before, etc.

Congrats on dropping the weight!!!

I am here for you in a mentoring capacity if you should ever feel the need. Skinny is not so bad once you get used to it

yea maybe some inflatable bladders to put under the skin that way your face would never change.

Maybe, to match my thinner face I need a thinner blade. Maybe I'll throw away all my blades bigger than 6/8s.

Over about the last 3 years I've also worked at losing weight and have dropped about 60 lbs. I figured that I had to try something to ease the strain on hip and knee joints going south. It seems to have worked, so far. Interestingly, my hat size changed too - not as much as my belt size, but I'm now more just a meat head than the fat head I used to be. However, since the change has been slow I haven't had to deal with changes in shaving routines and angles of attack, etc. Good luck with your adaptive procedures. :gl:

Now you know how I feel, TBS. I watched some youtube videos.. and was unimpressed. Not only are the videos not at a high enough resolution to see if they really did get a close shave quickly, but the rounded nature of their faces made it much easier than us non-big-fat-hogs have to contend with.

Funny this should come up. I recently came to the conclusion that I would be the world's worst sick old man so I figured I should do something to not be a sick old man. My last visit to the Dr. was pretty disappointing, not only am I currently on blood pressure and cholesterol meds, he says my blood sugar is getting pretty shady as well. He asked if there was any history of diabetes in my family and I replied, "No, Doc, my folks have always been heart attack, stroke or emphasyma people." My flippant remark of course was only intended to hide the fact that alot of what he was saying was really kind of scary. I decided then and there that I was done being a fat, sick old man. I started a 5 day a week PT program and I'm currently down about 16 lbs from my last doctor visit. The difference in how I feel is amazing and while I've still got plenty of weight left to lose, I'm confident it will come off in time. The ultimate goal is to return to my active duty conditioning and weight (well as close to that as I can get) hopefully I can get off some of these meds with such a program. It would sure be nice to just take a multivitamin and a fish oil supplement and call it good. I'm nowhere near ready to begin training yet but in the next couple years, I'd like to run a marathon. I did one in 1990 and it was the coolest thing ever. For now though, I'm content to just go out and do a slow waddle for a half an hour five days a week but I'll get there. I haven't notice any changes in my face yet (at the moment the weight seems to be coming off of the barley and hops storage reservoir.)

I've gotten the DE adapted no problem and the WTG strokes with the straight are OK but it's the across and against that I need to work on. The other day I was using a spike and I discovered I have this big depression to the right of my adams apple that wasn't there before. Funny how I didn't notice that but that spike sure did. That sure did smart-Har har.

I solve the problem by shaving right after a shower with just a towel wrapped around me and my feet slightly apart. But I hear the gravity ain't strong enough for everybody, so YMMV, har-har :p

Welcome to my world. I'm 6 feet tall and weigh 160 lbs. The hollows of my neck, the spots below my ears next to the jaw, and the jaw line from the ears to the chin are where I have trouble. Basically, I--and now you--have difficulty shaving any feature with high curvature.

I follow the advice provided in previous threads regarding difficult spots (e.g. lots of stretching, moving the skin away from the jaw line), however, this takes time. My compromise is to use a DE during the week and save straight razor shaving for the weekends when I have all the time I need. In some respect, a DE is better because the razor is more maneuverable. Consequently for me, a DE shave with a fresh razor rivals a straight shave.

This sounds to me like a bunch of us old guys are realizing we aren't going to last long if we don't take better care of ourselves.

My story starts 3 years ago. At 230lbs. I was pretty badly overweight and my BP was way high, my cholesterol was off the scale and I was pre-diabetic. in 1 years time I dropped 55 lbs. and now even though my BP still requires meds, nothing else does. I'm no longer pre-diabetic and I'm down to a svelte 185.

At 54 I didn't really want to die, so I took that approach. So along with other life changes, i.e. exercise, eating better, and straight shaving, I have found a balance that seems to work pretty well.

I too have the hollow spots along my trachea and under my ears at the jawline that didn't used to exist. I still have to finish my shaves along those spots with my cart razor. On the days I give a crap that is.. Some days I'm content to do what I can with my straight, but there are just spots that I cannot do ATG due to the fact my arm doesn't twist that way. The left side of my face usually looks like hamburger because I either try and shave with my left hand, or do the reach around and try with my right. Either way, it's a rough go.

Anyway, congrats on the weight loss, keep it up!!! I've managed to keep from 40-50lbs off for 3 years now. I've noticed I can fluctuate 10 lbs during a months span. It depends on how much exercise I get and how much I stuff in the pie hole. Keeping one up and the other down just seems to work. I guess at my age the fluctuations can be pretty big. The Dr. said no problem though on my last checkup. However, I did have what he called a TIA or a little mini stroke here a month or so back. It about dropped me out of a shower one morning. I thought I was a goner for a moment, then it went away and I was fine. Went to work and it didn't happen again.

Now they want to run a whole battery of tests that I cannot afford. I guess I should have dropped that weight a couple of years earlier, eh??? heheheh. Oh well, what are you gonna do, but the best you can, right?

Better to get healthy before something bad happens, than after.

I hate to say it but if your avatar is an accurate representation, weight loss is the least of your shaving worries!
