Hey guys,
This is the first razor that I honed. My dad helped me a little, but I mainly did it myself. My dad shaved with it and said it shaved pretty good. It is a vintage razor that we got for cheap at an antique store. Here is the finished product after it had been buffed up a bit and honing.Attachment 79262
Great job! Those Safedge's can be tough to hone but take a wicked edge. Enjoy.
How proud am I gents? Not only am I proud that my son's first honing was able to give me a DFS, but I'm also proud that he's learned to put others first. See, this is a razor that we'd bought to be HIS first razor. Although it's a vintage that has given someone else years of service, I'd planned on letting him take her on her "maiden voyage" when he shaves for the first time. But he asked me to shave with it first. I wouldn't trade anything for the smile on his face when he walked in the shave den Monday morning and saw I was shaving with his razor that HE had honed.

Starting at such a young age with proper drive and a great mentor, I might add, I am sure by the time you are teaching you children and grandchildren to shave with the first razor that YOU restored, YOU honed, and YOU maintained for years, YOU will have reached a level reserved for only the most elite.
By the way props on letting Dad have the first shave.

I teach a freshmen JC metal shop class part time,the first thing we teach young folks is knife sharpening.
Learning about bevels and angles,is the beginning of learning how all cutting type tools function,from scissors to drill bits,Nice blade also,only one I feel safe around:)

Indeed you are a lucky man.
As a Dad myself I know exactly how you feel. It's a great feeling to guide a youngster and have them take the reins their self and run with it. And who knows what interests and various paths just this one accomplishment with their own hands can lead them to.
Congratulations and I commend you for spending quality time with your son.
i myself am a new honer, i be using disposables for years now, i have a few Straights and got my stones, I gave my son one-, right now i am working on a better progressive system we will see how it works, i think it will fair well------ this is fun at all ages, i am hoping to pass it on to my son
