There is sharp and then there is crazy with sharps stuff.

The next to last video does cover "stretching" in an
informative way. While his choice of blades is insane
watching and listening -- he makes some OK points.

I almost said nothing because beginners should
not play this game but hidden in these are hints
that could help with a normal blade.

Of interest the heel and point of a big blade
and the heel and toe of a razor have a lot
in common.

I'd play hell trimming above my mustache with one of those. :p Long time ago Bruno sharpened an ax to shaving sharp for a friend. Pretty good sized shaver that. :) I'll stick with my 5/8 thank you.

8/8 is great, 9/8 is fine....a meat cleaver. Umm, I'll pass, I like my nose and lips.

WOW!! (All I can say is....WHY!?!?! LOL )

So if a cleaver is, say, 4" wide would that make it a 32/8? :roflmao

Now that you put it that way, it doesn't seem such a challenge.

To me this is more silly than useful. Yes, good steel can take a good edge, but firstly cleaver that sharp is impractical because that edge is gone after the first contact with the cutting board, and secondly shaving with such an uncomfortable object shows more a lack of good sense than a presence of any skill.

To me it's like that knife maker shaving with the edge he put on spoon - why?

One of these days I expect to see an entry to the darwin awards of somebody who decided to shave with a chain or band saw.

Yeah, but that's the WOW of those who have no idea about shaving, so they have to impress with something else.
Now, if you want to impress somebody in the know with your honing skills and good shaving technique, use a 1/8" razor. That's what separates the people with skill from those with nothing more than testosterone.

I must say i truly enjoy shaving with a straight razor, meat cleaver are for other task, to me this make as much sense as playing pool with a telephone pole............

Fair enough. It seems like they had a good time doing it, judging by the videos.

Imagine a 1/8", that'd be like shaving with a wire. :D

'BTW' nobody disputes that. A couple of years ago he learned how to hone straight razors with the help of this forum.

Wow. That's all there is to say is wow. Obviously not practical, more of a circus act, but still pretty crazy.

yes it goes like that, you use a gizmo to hone on stones up to w/e high grit, then on the gizmo put balsa with series of compounds all the way down to say 0.125 micron. It is not really that much of a skill, if they can do it free hand (which they can't) then they deserve the WOW.
