I'm in NYC area, so hopefully finding someone to teach me won't be too hard, I am not against sending it out but need to make sure I'm sending it to a good honemeister before shipping off an over hundred dollar razor to a stranger (the paranoid in me )

Oh man, I was expecting another good AoS story. I've talked to the sales people there twice and won't be doing that again...just get my sandalwood and go.
But it seems like any kind of AoS thread these days is the wet shaving forum world equivalent of "so this guy walks into a bar..."
But yeah, TI for sure...and take the barber lesson, but with a grain of salt (or possibly a good laugh!)

What's wrong with AOS? (just curious)

Their product is pretty decent...it's really their sales staff that have a reputation of being cocky AND uninformed

I didn't find them cocky, they were very helpful actually, but they are a bit misinformed IMHO (I thought they knew a lot before joining this forum) but that may just be the way they are trained from corporate in order to increase sales....

Thanked: 1262The reason they are so uniformed is because they are part of a money laundering operation for al qaeda. You know who hates shaving? al qaeda.
Remember this the next time you want some sandalwood shaving soap. Do you like nice smelling lather or America? Take your pick.

I'm sure there are good and bad at AOS. From what I have heard from members here, many "Real Barbers" are not all that great either.Last edited by Slartibartfast; 11-02-2011 at 03:39 PM. Reason: missing the word "heard"

True it's getting harder and harder to find a "real" barber these days

Thanked: 2I dont believe that you can generalize an entire company based on one or two sales people that you have spoken with. I've been in my local AoS store several times and found the sales people to be knowledgable and extremely friendly and helpful. Maybe you just ran into some bad individuals at your local store. You shouldnt discourage other users from visiting based on your poor experiance...

They are knowledgeable about their product, it's not their fault they are told the razors are shave ready when they aren't

Not discouraging anything...I say they make a good product, but I...personally....have had bad experiences with their people. I'm glad you've had great experiences. But that doesn't mean a lot of people on wetshaving forums, including myself, haven't had the same experience. Don't worry, I don't think my (humble) opinion is going to deter anyone or cause a dip in Proctor & Gamble's profits...
