Sharp blade, bad shave...

I bought a Dovo Shavette and have been using it for a week or two now. Not real sure exactly how long, I have never been good at keeping up with days. In any event, the first time I used it, I ended up with quite a few nicks and a bit of razor burn. Then as I used it more and more, the shaves were getting better. I summed this up to me getting more adept at using the razor. No more nicks, or irritation. The blade started tugging lightly at my beard on about the third use, but the shaves where still coming out good. And a light tug at my beard dont bother me...
Today though I put a new blade on, and though the blade cut my beard with nearly no resistance at all, my face is very irritated. I hardly applied any pressure at all, my beard is actually not even as close as it has been lately. Is this a common thing? Sharp blades causing irritation? Maybe this is a sign that I need to try a new shave soap? lol

New disposable blades are a bit rough right out of the box. So count on irritation every time you replace the blade but then as the blade gets worn and smoothed, the shaves will become better as you've noticed.

I use the Feather AC with Pro Super blades. The blades are good for about 10 shaves, and there's a big difference in the performance of a new vs. an old blade. Until I really got the hang of things, a new blade could result in a less than perfect shave. Now, somewhere in the back of my mind, I manage to adjust the shave to the state of the blade. I actually look forward to new blade day now. Also, there's probably less of a difference now between my technique with a new blade and an old blade.

Thanks for the input guys. Hopefully I will get my honing skills up to a reasonable level soon and wont have to worry about these disposable blades =P

Try a different blade. Some blades are bad right out of the box.
