Actually, I had to relather the back of my head for the first time in 4 years during today's shave. I thought it was a bit curious because nothing was really different time-wise, but the lather felt a bit "goopier" and cloggy than normal. I wonder if what you say about the additional water from rinsing was the reason? :hmmm:
James.
I just rinse under the tap with hot water
I shave after the shower and wipe the blade carefully on the towel I have wrapped around my waist.
I'm with the damp sponge contingent. I figured out early that the more water I exposed my razors to, the more I would potentially leave on the blade when I put it away. After chopping up several washclothes and hand towels, I saw the sponge trick on you tube and checked it out. Works like a champ. You can buy these sponges for about 50 cents a piece use them for several months before they get cut up and when they really get in bad shape you simply toss them away and pull out a new one. No rusty blades, no nagging from SWMBO over cut up towels and such, life is good.
For a moment I thought this was a question about toilet paper or a bidet. Sheesh!
Joking aside, I rinse during the shave and strop on my wool for a few laps to clean off any debris on the edge after the shave.
I rinse under hot running water and when I am finished I dry the blade thoroughly. I then give the blade a quick spray with Inox.
This was Onimaru55 piece of wisdom passed to me and I am a disciple!:bow
I rinse while shaving and use face cloths to wipe the blade down. I bought a dozen or so at Target, They're specifically for my razors, so SWMBO doesn't get angry if I cut them. I tend to be a sloppy shaver, so when I'm finished, I give the blade a good rinse, then wipe it down with a dry hand towel. I use the corner of the towel to wipe out the area by the pivot pin.
I also give the razor a good shake when I'm done, just like you'd do a brush (Yes, You need to be careful doing that) The blade stays out overnight on a paper towel, then gets wiped down with a silicone treated cloth.
I like the idea of the oil and alcohol. I see a jar of it in my future. Every once in a while, All my blades get treated with Renaissance wax. It's good protectant. This may be a bit anal, but Florida's bad.
I just throw the razor away. I have plenty in my rotation and I never have to worry about any rust or creating any unwanted " Patina ". Long live RAD ! Save on cleaning stuff too..................:boohoo:
I keep a sponge in the bottom of the sink.
I "wipe" during my shave, and then "rinse" after everything is done, followed by a good "wipe" with a piece of tissue paper. Does the trick for me....
....now....for real....do you really want to know what I was thinking when I first saw the title of this thread?? I was thinking "now why the heck would Jimbo want to tally who uses TP and who uses a bidet?" "Dude's a bit odd...."
I rinse in the sink then wipe it off with paper towel afterwards....
I'm in the "other" category. Or, more precisely, "both." I've developed a peculiar habit of wiping the blade with my index finger, then dipping my finger in the wash basin full of hot water to get rid of the lather and whiskers. I'm probably asking for trouble, but I haven't cut myself yet.
I discovered early on that rinsing the blade under the tap introduces the risk of knocking the blade on the faucet or sides of the basin, and I would cry crocodile tears if I chipped a good blade like that.
Post shave, I wipe in a stropping motion on a dry towel, then between the scales with a cotton square. Then I put a few drops of baby oil on the cotton and wipe it on the blade to keep the rust away. I don't strop on leather after the shave. The advice I've seen from Dovo says to let the steel "relax" for a day before stropping or shaving again. So far, my blades have stayed very keen stropping pre-shave only.
Cheers!
I just wipe the lather on a micro fiber towel. When done rinse out the towel and there's no waste. I then dip in 91% alcohol dry thouroughly and strop on leather.
I voted other because I do both. It depends on what product I use.
