    Default Special shave today!

I just wanted to share a very special experience I had this morning, and I hope other husbands and fathers will appreciate it. After getting up and making coffee for the wife (Kona beans/burr grinder/French press) and feeding the kids, I got some time to "clean up" for the day. My birthday was last week, and a "late present" arrived yesterday, a white Schwarzweisskeramik XL scuttle with matching soap lid. I loaded the lid last night with some Arko I received from Rudy Vey this week with another gift from the wife (a beautiful long handled "shredded money" silver tip brush) and stropped my Grandfather's razor (Max Sprecher did a fantastic job restoring it for me this Spring). I pre-warmed the scuttle with hot tap water and soaked my brush (actually used another new brush, a customized Shavemac my kids gave me this week) and jumped in the shower. I finished up in the shower and got "to shaving." I emptied the scuttle and refilled it with hot tap water. I loaded the Shavemac with the Arko, the scent of which my wife absolutely LOVES, and proceeded to whip up an impressive bowel of lather. I only intended to do a couple of passes, but ended up doing three full passes and touch ups. The lather was still warm on all three passes (and my water heater is set at 120). The Arko scent (which reminds me so much of my Father's old brush, the memory of which is why I started using a straight razor), the new scuttle from my wife, the new brush from my children, and my grandfather's razor (which was actually given to me by my brother -- he found it in a tool box and doesn't wet shave) combined for an experience that was priceless. I feel sorry for men that consider shaving a chore. For 45 minutes this morning, I felt a connection to 3 generations of my family, and it was absolutely WONDERFUL!!!

(I have no connection to any connection to any of vendors mentioned other than being a customer.)

Good stuff, words can't always express why we enjoy this but what you wrote says it all. Not sure how old your kids are but if they're young enough you could add them to the mix with a bladeless DE or shavette and share the joys on the odd Saturday or Sunday...

I love the feeling of zen when shaving. Although I don't get that same connection you do with family I do feel a very relaxing time that starts every day out perfectly! good to hear your having a great time!

sounds awesome i just had a simular shave but it was only my 7th straight razor shave and all my stuff is new, well to me at least. i just use the soap i got from wally world. and a cheap boar brush and a aluminum mug given to me by a friend last night. i looked it up and it was made by colgate soap co. but im not sure when. and of course the most important and only thing left is my a razor. a richards & conover that belonged to my great grandfather and was finally passed down to me. i never even met my grandfather, so i know nothing about my great grandfather except what if felt like for him to shave. kinda makes time stand still standing in front of a mirror with your face covered in hot lather ,with the smell or shave soap in the air and then it hits you that you get to enjoy something that our roll models, mentors, and most of all family got to enjoy in the same fashion only decades ago. great post!
