Running the last of my new 7-Day set through its paces. I was making big, confident, scything strokes.

I'd gone into the shave thinking about my friend, currently on blood thinners due to massive clotting. I was wondering how I'd deal with that.

Would I keep shaving with a straight?

Would I just grow out a beard again?

Typically, I end up with fewer nicks using a wedge. Maybe I'd just keep using one of those...

I'd let the skin on my neck just a tiny bit slack and the razor found a crease. How I stopped it without getting a cut bad enough to take a picture of, I don't really know. The cut is too small to take a picture of (I tried!), and I'm pretty glad.

Let this be a lesson!

Never tempt a razor to cut you. They're very accommodating.

Just last week I was thinking on how I've been shaving 4 months with only 3 or 4 nicks and hadn't cut myself in at least 2 months and gave myself the biggest cut yet. Not deep, hardly bled at all but a highly visible red line about 1.5 inches long vertically in the middle of my right cheek. So now I just shave, I'm not keeping 'score' anymore, it tempts fate.

Same here if I ever think of the last time I cut myself I always end up cutting myself right after that.

Straight razor shaving is such a wonderful exercise in patience and mindfulness..a little loss of concentration and you pay the price. Being new to this, I have paid the price more than I would like!

Guess I should admit that I sliced my earlobe this morning because I was trying to rush and not paying attention. Which I usually do cause I find shaving quiet and relaxing.

I feel your pain, I just rescaled and honed my tiger spike point. While shaving im thinking "geeze this thing is (1/2" cut insert here) .... sharp"
I sure scared the wife 5 mins later when she walked in and my face was literally pink lather and dripping blood on my second pass!
Note to self, mute spike points.

Every once in a while, my TI spike point gives me a "little kiss" as if it's reminding me to pay attention.

I like to let them have a little blood at least once a week. A little slit on the earlobe or a slight abrasion on the neck. Keeps them from digging in too deep....

I myself have done the ear lobe slice. A really strange place for a shaving cut, when you think about it. Like every other time I've cut myself with a straight, that incident fit the profile. All my cuts were the product of one of the following:
1. Trying to rush.
2. Not paying attention (most recently when my bride was nagging me mid-shave, boy that turned out to be a peach of a day all the way around)
3. Bouncing the razor to Free Bird or some other killer tune playing in the background.

As dangerous as straight razors are reputed to be, I can honestly say I've never cut myself and not, mere seconds later, identified the cause as me and not the razor. My first thought prior to reaching for the styptic pencil is always, "Man, that was really *&%kin stupid! You know better than that!" Styptic pencils, by the way, are the coolest invention since birth control pills. Hard to believe that most modern men have no idea about them and still resort to the less than effective bits of toilet paper to treat shaving cuts.
