just got my razor back from AFDAVIS11(Alan) and man what a difference. It actually shaves for the first time, and I didnt even cut myself. It pulls slightly, but that is in no way his fault, just either newbs technigue or just the tough irish beard I was blessed with genetically. Im amazed at his work though considering all of the damage that was done to the blade with a Lansky sharpening guide. Thanks Alan for all the hard work.
Way to go! It only gets better.

I completely agree with Celticstone. Alan invited me over to his place about 2 months ago and he got my new Dovo razor shave ready. I had been using a razor I bought from Joe Chandler that was scary sharp. Alan had that new razor shaving every bit as well. While visiting Alan he filled my head with all kinds of great information about shaving and maintaining a straight razor. He had a "practice" straight he let me use while he instructed me on honing and stroping.

I am jealous...I usually don't pay much mind to mail call, but now it seems like the days are dragging by while I wait for my first razor/strop to get here. :/

Celticstone's post has actually inspired me quite a bit, as the only reaction I've gotten from other Marines whom I've told about my little venture into straight razoring is, "Make sure you have a corpsman handy." Either that, or the blunter, "Man, you are going to cut your face to ribbons." Gee, thanks for the support. :mad:
Then I come here and read enough to realize that my chances of, say, accidentally removing an ear or nostril aren't THAT bad. :)

No I don't shave in the shower. I don't particularly fancy the risk of slipping, and being in a very small enclosure with lots of movement and 3 inches of the sharpest steel in my house (save perhaps the scalpel that we have on standby for removing splinters)
YEah shaving in the shower has always n my mind been a bit dangerous forget about dropping the soap drop the razor blade and things could get nasty just imagine claret everywhere and a razor sliding around the shower. The only accident in the shower i ever had was knocking the glass dish of the holder whilst being a little bit more energenic than usual :w and having that glass dish smashing my foot apart. Cough Cough
Shower+shaving? sounds like a sure recipy for accidents to me. Plus it can't be good for those carob straights that I use either!
Good on the shave though! You have another razor on it's way to you. You'll be able to intorduce a bit of variety that way.
