Best of all my shavers
I recently bid on several razors from ebay and one of them had Gerbruder zeigler bergzabern pfalz on the tang and a "71" stamped as well. Don't know if it's polish or german, I honed it with a coticule only and then stropped with chromium oxide and then english bridle leather. Of all the razors I have which is around 20 both new and used, the shave on this has been so far noticeably better than any. I have honed over100 razors so far and this one has offered the best shave. I don't know if its the stone, the chromium oxide, the strop the technique or the steel on this razor. So far it's offered the best shave by far. I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, but Im curious why it seems much smoother than all the others. Any thoughts?

Sounds like it has a great bevel, and honed up better? Of course the other 20 could be in need of same!

Google translate has it as, from the German, Ziegler Brothers Bergzabern Palatinate. Bad Bergzabern is a municipality in the Südliche Weinstraße district, on the German Wine Route in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.

Sometimes you hit a blade and a stone in your collection that just hit home with your particular honing style. Or maybe the razor is a perfect ergonomic fit for you... is it a different grind than usual, different tang style, anything like that?

I really, in all honesty, just don't know why that happens- but I have to agree. I have a Hart that always, [ALWAYS] hones up the same way. It is an outstanding shaver and is so easy to maintain. And, it wouldn't be fair to not say the same for my RW Purist; simply outstanding, always. The odd-balls here include, a pair of Holzhauers (one 5//8 & the other is 6/8), both of which hone up similarly and like the other two mentioned, are ALWAYS [both] outstanding as well!

I have a Gebruder Christians #81 that is by far my best shaver, I don't know what it is, but those German Brothers always do a great job. My second best is my Henckels, but they're twins, so still brothers I assume. Now that's not to say that my other razors aren't good, it's just the feel of the blade, and the way it slices hair, it's both super sharp and super smooth. When you slice through the hair, it doesn't feel like your doing anything, but when you feel your face all the hair is gone.
I have been searching for another Gebr. Christians, but have had no luck whatsoever. Now I know another Gebruder to search.

Sir...you certainly caught my interest. I will make a note and look as well for a Gebruder Christians #81 (may the best man win!) However, being the sportsmen I am, forever on the hunt for either size Holzhauer, I very well may pass on the next as I recently was able to re-pin an original with matching scales to my 5/8.
