From past experience I'm sure that he'll experience pain, maybe not excruciating pain but still pain. Every time he hits that finger against something solid, he'll be reminded.

Trust me on this one as I know-----------

That's what the scars are for, to remind you after the pain is gone and forgotten

About a 4 footer, from looking at the bite width. Good thing it wasn't a gator or croc.!

And WTF are you doing surfing at this time of year. Water temps can't be all that pleasing in January.?

Tom is right! I'm 71 and I don't surf, but lots of the locals do and wear wet suits and surf whenever there are decent waves. The ocean here now is about 51 degrees. Too cold for me!

I fired up the blower again today. Wife’s not home, hehe.
Yeah my finger didn’t hurt the machine one bit!
Played back the events in my head since the injury, and the signs I ignored in my haste to finish the job.
New tight belt, should have anticipated the auger to be live from my experience. First clue.
Hard to start, like it was under load, second clue.
Reached in without checking visually that the auger wasn’t turning, first mistake .
Not thinking of all the what if’s,, second mistake.
I’ve worked with machinery, and on machinery my entire life. Done loads while power on by necessity, as well as torn down an locked out.
I’m now in maintenance leadership and Lead by example, or try too.
Single greatest danger that day, and every day is mental awareness is what I shared with my crew at work over the last couple days.... lesson relearned, and shared.

I took the good natured ribbing, earned it in fact, and grateful to be able to hear it.
I was simply in a good mood, and a bit of a hurry, and failed to appreciate that fact in my false confidence of my own indestructibility.
Much improved in only 3 day’s healing and figure I can putter in the shop as long as I keep the finger tip wrapped.

Not to hijack, but a local carpenter friend here with many years of experience lost three fingers on his right hand 6 weeks ago to his table saw on a job site (he's a freelancer). He doesn't know what or how happened, except the obvious..one minute he was doing well, the next thing he remembered was looking down and all but pinky and thumb were gone. Co-worker called 911 and they took him and the fingers to Richmond, VA via helicopter. They reattached all 3, but 2 didn't make it. Only managed to save (so far) his index finger which they reattached with a pin straight into the tip through bone to the knuckle. Spent 4 weeks in the hospital, and when he came home wife and I took him a meal. Said he was getting tired of sweat pants, meat that didn't need to be cut and velcro shoes. Very sad case, because here, you work or you starve. The local guys have done a GoFundMe for him, and hooked him up with some support agencies. Vietnam veteran, so I hooked him up with VA.

Had dinner with him Thursday night and he has a better attitude than I would, but man, his hand is mess. Will be a long rehab. He is of course right-handed. I have a picture which I promised not to share. Probably could use prayers if you do that.

I knew it wasn't you, I was just saying, in general. Maybe..why would "anybody" be surfing, would've be proper.

I can hear my mother, now. She was a school teacher, drilled me sooo much on that crap, I totally blocked her outta my life. Loved and hated her, my whole life. Nag, nag, nag. OK, I'm done.

Man, that is awful. Will pray for him. My father in law took a thumb off while running a saw about a year+ ago. He was renovating his house. Fortunately they were able to save his thumb.
