I Week of Mediocrity, Then...Magic!
I love that a DFS is the norm with the 5 straights that I have. However, this last week the shaves have been mediocre. It's not the razors as they are all properly honed and stropped, and not in need of a touch-up. The soaps and creams that I use are all quality stuff (AOS Sandalwood, RazoRock La Famiglia Don Marco, Spencer & Devon Sagebrush, T&H Trafaglar, C.O. Bigelow) I believe its because I have been crazy busy with work, which is a good thing, and so I have been rushed through my shaves this week. As a result, I have nicked myself a few times, used a little too much pressure at times, not really paid attention, so the shaves have only been "okay."
So today, I used Williams Mug soap with a 6/8 Hart razor. I don't do any special prep. I used a Semogue boar brush. A very good face lather was produced, thick and slick. Whenever I use Williams, I tend to shave very slow, use minimal pressure, and am very careful and I pay attention, like we should anytime we shave. I think I am more aware with Williams because I don't have the same level of conficence in it as I do with the other creams and soaps. Well, like magic, I had a DFS, and BBS on my chin, with a one pass multi-directional shave, with a little touch-up around my lips.
Glad to know it was my technique and not the equipment. Now I can't stop touching my face.
