I'm hoping that when I get my SFK stamped variant of the Wapi next week that I'll have the same luck as yoU!

A velvet sqeegee! What a great description of a "wow" razor.

Thats funny I too have such a razor its an old Sta-Sharp with more pitting then shine on it & with the scales pointing to the starboard side, but its the finest shaver in a 120+ collection.

I think the "wow" comes from a good razor, but mostly, a master honer.

These razors ARE really something special. You can't take a standard razor and turn it into one because the razor itself simply doesn't have it in it to be such a piece. It's a difficult concept because you can have a standard quality razor and it can be honed to perfection and you are sure it's a wow razor when in fact it isn't. I know I sure thought I had a few until I really had one and then I realized how mistaken I was.

I fondly remember my first Wapi & was brave enough to shave ATG with it. It was a wow moment for me too but I bet like me OP will have others.

I know what you mean original poster!

I had that feeling when I first bought my Puma. Never looked back since. A superb shaver. Since then I have got other 'wow' razors - two Filly's and an original Le Grelot, 1/4 grind. Wouldn't let them go if my life depended on them! They take a superb edge that just lasts.

Haven't been using straights for very long, but read about how sometimes a razor sings. Picked up a filly novo...started singing on the first downstroke. My first wow moment. Can't wait for more...
