Damn 'em all to hell. Lol, they are tricky though. I had not cut myself in over a month but the spike got me last night.

Gently blunting just the very tip of the blade (the spike) on a hone or a glass bottle will have no impact on the blade profile and will usually eliminate those surprise attacks.
Muted spike is great in avoiding surprises but I prefer the spike, muted or not for it's precision. I'm a beard wearer and loved the ability of the spike to shape the style.
+1 here with a mustache goatee and sideburns, the spikes just work so well, but a second of oooooh butterfly and :cen lol! My one spot seems to be my left ear, like my arm just navigates itself there.
I enjoy the spike point purely for it's badassness.
It's just another minor complication in the straight shaving skill. Kind of like having a manual choke in a car (remember them?) Mastering a full spike point gives you bragging rights.
I got myself with a spike point recently too, and I hadn't done that in a few years lol :) It happens.
Spikes are the best to learn on IMO, they make you pay attention!
I wear a Goatee myself, so I love the spikes. You do have to be careful. I used to get my left ear too, until I learned to hold/stretch it back a bit when I shave.
It left a nice scar.
I have not got my ear yet but I guess I will one day. I am thinking of not blunting it for bragging rights. But if I slash my ear that might change my mind.
Well you convinced me, guess I'm going with my spike point for my next shave, haven't used it one in a while
I have a face like Charlie Brown's, all gentle curves with the occasional bump in the road. I really don't like spikes.
I love spikes and square points. I have the goat, so sculpting is nice.
I will say though, I can shave a lot faster with a round or even muted square, but who wants to shave faster?...well sometimes I do, so options are nice;)
Pointy razor are fun!
I love my spikes and other razors with a aggressive point, they do bite sometimes, but they make you pay more attention and by that automatically also slowing down a bit and making the shave step up one level IMO.
Just got a Spike , But this one is a Bit special I wont use it but frame it up. HI O WHISKERS AWAY ! JH LONE RANGER OWNED ANTIQUE OLEAN NY UNION CUTLERY Co. SPIKE STRAIGHT RAZOR | eBay
stinks, had the same thing happen yesterday
I have a love/hate relationship with my spikes. I love them but hate when they cut me. They, on the other hand, love to cut me and I hate when they get a temper!
This is is not your typical 'spike point. you can track the work in progress in the workshop under w&b regrind

I love spike points and don't mute mine. It adds to the thrill of the shave and forces you to pay attention.
