Thread: Face Lathering convert!

Trying to get a decent shave with MWF is what made me a convert to face lathering. As far as the brush, I've used boar, badger, horse and synthetic and all seem to work well.

It's warm lather from a scuttle for me....why shortchange yourself with cold lather....life is too short for that nonsense .

Because shaving cold is so much more refreshing, and less bloody?

Face lathering does not mean a cold shave. I soak everything in hot water before starting and I get a nice warm comfy shave that I feel, at least for me, is superior to scuttle, cup or bowl mixing.

Lately, I've developed a hybrid technique. I drip some glycerin right onto the shave soap before I get in the shower (i've done this with TOBS Sandalwood, Santa Maria Novella, and Acqua di Parma). Out of the shower, I load my brush and lather my face, but not too thick. Then I fill my scuttle with hot water, strop the razor, just taking my time to let the lather and glycerin soften the beard. When all is ready, I wet the brush, build some lather in the scuttle, relather my face, and shave. It seems that my face stays better lubricated, and I have less irritation in the two spots I tend to get it. This has worked really well for me, and I've eliminated pre-shave oil altogether. I'd have to consider myself a convert, as well. Give it a try.

I find face lathering to be more convenient and quicker, but I get more lather when I use the bowl. Also my face lather has to be tweaked as I make my passes, while the bowl lather stays consistent.
