First time travelling...

This is my first time travelling with a straight. I'm going to Winnipeg (Wingerpeg) MB, for a week long position analysis for my job in the military. I packed 2 soaps, brut aftershave, witch hazel, glycerin, alum block, boar brush, medal of award strop, crox/ceox and my cbn strops as well as 3 straight razors including my 6/8 Plumacher round point, my 'silver steel souvenir' that's pushing the 1" mark and a 5/8 Wostenholm that I just finished on my Jnat (ozuku mizo asagi) last night.

The only thing i don't like is putting the steel in my checked luggage.

Be prepared the TSA might handle your blades when doing a bag check.

Also, if your hotel has an in room safe, put your straights in there while you're out for the day. Housekeeping is a little too touchy in my experience.

"Winterpeg" in December? Sorry to hear...it's winter for nine months, but at least you're not there for the three summer months...or mosquito season, lol!

Enjoy your trip, your blades should be fine. When I travel I find a shaving stick to be the most convenient...if you haven't got one, now might be the time to try some out!

Did you pack a d-clip or an extra shoe lace so you can attach your strops to either the towel rack or door knob in your hotel room?

A cable/zip tie or two would work fine also.

Wow, you sure don't pack light for a weeks travel. Are you taking service air or civvie, staying on base at WPG? I am leary of packing anything in checked baggage that has value to me or is not cheaply and easily replaceable. That means cloths only and I leave my straights at home. The suggestion of using a shave stick is a good one, IMHO, as a travel soap. Arko lathers well for me when I have been in the Peg. In any event good luck to ya and pack your long johns.

Big +1. There is the breakage issue as well as theft, and lost or misplaced luggage.

Not doubt, when I travel with a straight, I tend to take one that would not upset me if it somehow disappeared.

I picked up a Feather RG for my travels. Less chance for banged up blades.
