Is it cheating to use a de to clean up after doing a 3 pass shave with a straight razor? I just got the best shave of my life but felt like I cheated. Any thoughts?

IMHO: You can't cheat if you're wet-shaving. Enjoy. Many use both straights and DE's. It's not, as I see it, a one or the other thing. It's a wet-shaving thing.
You should use what works for you. If your straight shaves get good enough to satisfy you, great. Until then use your DE. Besides, shaving with a DE is also fun and yields great shaves. I like to mix it up now and then for variety.
You are not cheating in my book.
In fact I have been giving serious thought to doing the same thing.
If I just weren't so... STUBBORN!!!:)
As the saying goes, all roads lead to Rome. There are purists that would say it's cheating, but who cares as long as you get the desired results? We actually recommend that beginners finish their shaves with their previous form of razor. It ensures a smooth shave instead of chasing BBS with multiple passes, which will likely result in irritation and blood.
I think you will find that will more practice you'll be able to achieve a fantastic shave with a straight alone, and remember fondly on the early days when you had to use two razors to get the same result.
