That's exactly what I use. I travel quite frequently and, many times, I am not somewhere with easy attachment-points for the clip on the end of my strop. A carabiner solves that issue nicely; I can usually find someplace to clip the 'biner (vanity cabinet handles, bed frames, cot frames, my buddy's suitcase....). If that doesn't work, a loop of 550 cord also functions quite nicely. You don't have to worry about it breaking...if you're puting 550 pounds of pull on your strop, you should probably re-examine your stropping paradigm.
