This weekend i rehoned a razor and need a test shave, but i already shaved.
So i ask in the family who wants a shave. I got 2 reactions on that question First my daughter called my legs should be done. And second surprisingly my son said he want to.
I did both but only have pics from the shave of my son. his attention has been drawn, and it was a super close shave.
Test shave was ok ;)
A good thing, passing it down, keeping the art alive.

I too was surprised that my son took an interest.
It is nice to know that it will be carried on.
I have 6 razors and am wanting to slim down my collection, but can't because I don't know which ones I'd want to pass down to my future son(s)!

Ahh, I remember my first shave. My dad took me aside, cracked out a bic disposable and a can of Gillette something-or-other, placed the bic in my hand and uttered these sage words: "Off you go. Use bits of toilet paper if you cut yourself".
I think both your son and daughter are very lucky to be introduced to shaving with straight razors. Congratulations!

I remember watching him shave a few times; once I said, " I can't wait till I get to shave, too. "
He stopped & looked at me with a smirk, replied, "Wait until you've done it everyday for 6 months, then come back & tell me how you like it."
Well clearly he wasn't using a straight. I'm excited before every shave now that I use straight razors.

In this mundane, workaday world we live in, where every second is devoted to pushing our noses ever harder on the grindstone, that little ray of light that is straight razor shaving brightens our day and girds our, umm, loins for the daily slog. My 5 year old son is already in love with shaving. In fact, any time I shave and he doesn't get to shave with me he gets mad and starts crying or pouts for an hour or so.
After seeing me shave, he was super excited when we went to Target (a big box retail store for those outside of the US) and he saw a toy shaving kit that had foaming soap (you know, so he gets clean in the tub) a toy plastic razor shaped like a cartridge razor, a tiny brush for lathering, comb and mirror. He was all like "Now I can shave my beard like you, Daddy." Of course, I had to buy it.
Fast forward to my next shave. I hopped out of the shower, applied my pre-shave oil and put a hot towel on my face. After I was done, I ran a bath for him while I worked on building my lather. He immediately jumped in and lathered up while watching me do it, following my example. I pulled out my straight and began making my WTG pass and hear a sigh from the bath tub.
"Daddy, this razor is no good. I need one like yours."
Needless to say, he now uses my shavette (blade out, of course).
I'm actually keeping an eye out for a Genco Safe Edge so when he starts shaving for real, his learning curve might not be as steep. I've found one and got a great original leather travel case with it, but alas, it didn't have the guard.
Don't have a son to speak of since I'm only 18, but I've always been fascinated by straights and thinking about it, it stemmed from one of my earliest memories; watching my great-grandad shave with a straight. Unfortunately he uses an electric razor now but that's because he has a less than steady hand.
At least your son's experienced a straight shave and will have a good teacher to show him the way, whereas I was handed a gillette a can of foam and basically told 'good luck'
We have the same thing here, as a matter of fact I had to include his in one of my SOTD pictures,
because he asked why we did not take pictures of his razor too.
This was also his first lather building excursion.

@ Jimbo - I think you are on to something with the slowing down and taking time being good and I think it can be good for our kids too. Even if my little girl never touches a straight (and she probably won't if she barely grows any hair on her legs and arms like her mom) I think that when we make time to do things that take an extra something it rubs off. Today I shaved with my straight, worked on a cedar bench and made pizza from scratch. I could have produced more efficient results by other means, but I wouldn't have enjoyed my day as much. Maybe that will rub off on her somehow. She did her first somersaults in the grass today - that's more her style.

He's more of a "you break it, you fix it" kind of guy, I have gotten lots of "don't break it" when it comes to tools but never a "don't hurt yourself".
Couldn't wish for a better father tho!
