I'm new at this so I'll venture semi-formal ritual with a steep learning curve, growing into an interest that could possibly become a hobby should I get into the honing and restoration aspect. My Sunday "Daddy Time" shaves definitely a meditative ritual that I have no wish to stop.

The hobby comes between the shaves. The sport comes from trying to hide your receipts from the wife so she doesn't come between your hobby and your shaves. The shaves are the necessity to justify your hobby that your wife already thinks is plain hooey....and the dog house, well that used to be your castle until the wife found "shudder" the receipts!!
Enjoy Gentlemen!!

Thanked: 1195To me, when it comes to wetshaving, the terms are interchangeable. Both take time and effort to master. Money helps, too

I was thinking along the lines of Tarkus' comment. Although I'm not there yet it could certainty become a
"passion".

What with folks like hang out around here, I'm not sure about the "Affordable!" Howsomever, I have been shaving for over sixty years and the last four have been doing it with with pleasure! Yes, there is no one word that describes the ????????????? but everyone has at least one that does it best for their take on wet shaving!

Thanked: 4you err good sir in the fact that you approach wetshaving from the wrong direction.
hobby does not apply because shaving is necessary sport does not apply because while it is physical sport would imply something done for a game or activity
in todays world wet shaving is an awakening to the fact that faster and easier is not better in all circumstances. the act of shaving itself does not change, the processes used to shave however are expanded and perfected to were shaving becomes better for you better looking for you and more manly.
to sum up wet shaving is a touch of something old and elegant in a society drowning in new and ugly

Thanked: 1263I'd have to say it is both...hobby due to the collecting and all the AD's that go along with it, and sport because of the drive and desire to squeeze the most out of every aspect of the shave and equipment
