And we've had fun looking at it. Is it true you're selling the coticule to buy another one that is as large as a Renault to hone your Henckles ? ........ :p

Words have no meaning when faced with images as strong and beautiful as those.
It's always a pleasure to share :)
There is an ongoing warm spot in my heart for those who take the time and spend the serious money to bring the shaving past alive. Thank you! Your museum quality work is very much appreciated!

You have an incredible collection, Thaeris. Thank you for sharing.
What happened to the pictures of your travel case from the first page of this thread?
Neat stuff!
In the "Pocket travel set in tortoise" what is the purpose of the item with the silver handle and ivory blade? I have seen something like it before which was said to be a letter opener but I don't know why you would need one in a travel grooming set?
Also is the container genuine tortoiseshell? Was it heated and pressed into that shape? Is tortoiseshell malleable/moldable like cow horn?
Well, some images seem to be missing. I'll have to take some new, I think..
From time to time I wonder if I shouldn't make an album or create a second thread with only the stuffs I kept..
The container is indeed made of solid and genuine tortoise shell :)
I wasn't designed as a travel toilet set, but I'm willing (and working) to do so ;)
Here is the external look :

It can indeed be worked like cow horn. When heated it appears to be very malleable, and to keep its form when the temperature goes down.
I think mine is made of different parts put / glued / pined together. :)
Thanks all !
Edit : And the ivory tool on the back, it's indeed to open letters. I'm willing to transform mine into a travel strop. As you can see the handle can be removed, and it can fit in the set this way.
Yes! If for no other reason than to allow others or your descendants/ gifted friends, to enjoy the collection later.
The Japanese have used heated irons to bond tortoise shell together for a long time.. There are a series of videos about Japanese Tortoise eyeglasses manufacture on You Tube. I hope they help us to understand the processes used.Quote:
