1" Wade & Butcher eBay score

Finally arrived from eBay and what a score, it is way better nick than expected, this is what I bid on and won for $61 USD with $10 USD shipping to Australia

which i think is a bargain compare to every other 8/8" goes for over $100 plus

This is what I got when i opened it no tarnish as expected, no restore marks, only a name or something scratched into the scale but this will buff out easy enough

I love bad eBay photo surprises this the second way better than expected perchance I have made.

Some other very minor warping & minor edge chips to the scales but other wise excellent:y
Needs a serious honing but, it is nearly safe enough for the kids to play with LOL

Super score. Just goes to show, everyone complains about the high prices of the meat choppers on the bay. If you have patience, keep your eyes peeled, there are bargains to be had.

I would research the name before I buffed it out, maybe it is someone who's name may increase the value of the razor tremendously.

I am in no rush with it yet and have it soaking in neetsfoot for now just to refresh the horn a bit so will look if anything can be found on it

Congrats on your buy but what do you mean by "no restore marks" ?
It looks sanded & buffed to me. :shrug:

Oz the resized photos for uploading don't do it justice in the slightest
the grind lines on the blade face and all faces for that matter look original with no resanding or rebuffing all edges are clean and crisp , little or no hone wear
If you could see the original you would agree I think

An original ebay photo of the tang, all have done is clean it by hand a little with autosol, the tail still has rust etc on it but the rest is mint

I guess if it didn't get the 'Sheffield Black Polish' at the factory there would be grind lines showing.

Researched the name the closest translations came up as follows:
14 Potel euni
Potel - Hotel
euni - short for Eunice or sexy
Eunice Louisiana is not far from Kentucky where I got it from
So either room 14 Hotel Eunice
or I Like to go with
Room 14 Hotel sexy
which makes think of a Gentleman's club in Eunice Louisiana
where it was the spare travellers shaver for the room
or someone left it there & couldn't go back for it for reason of discretion LOL
After a week of neatsfoot oil you can hardly see it anyway so I think can stay

That's great pick up for that kind of money, I have a beautiful set of black horn scales and some Bulls eye washers waiting for such a razor, but I'm not getting much luck looking for a big blade Wade & Butcher, don't get me wrong there are a shed load of them out there but most of them come with sky high prices and I'm not prepared to pay them.

Just lucky with the timing on this for keep an eye out it will come

Says the guy with a ton of Japanese razors that are NOS. There is a 1"blade on the classifieds.

Thanks Roberto, I've owned a few Wade & Butchers, even a NOS one, but never a 8/8 not sure If I actually want one or is it more of a case of I would like one to restore and put a new set of horn scales and those big old fancy Bullseye washers.

Leave that name! It's history man! Remember that the razor might be yours now, but it won't be forever..

Congratulations on a great scoop :rock: Yet another example of there still being big razors in good nick that can be had for a reasonable price !!
Also, nice to see an Aussie not get stung with shipping fees.
