Donnan & Dunn Wade & Butchers Celebrated Double Swaged Concave Razor
I have just received a strange straight and was wondering if anyone has any information on it? The tang is marked
"Donnan & Dunn Petersburg VA Warranted", but the spine is marked "Wade & Butchers Celebrated Double Swaged Concave Razor" I am quite familiar with the ubiquitous "Wade & Butcher" razors, but this one has an extra "S" after "Butcher". Is this an example of copyright infringement? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Donnan & Dunn Wade & Butchers Celebrated Double Swaged Concave Razor
I was watching this razor, as I collect rare and unique W&Bs, it's got a neat rattler grind.
W&B commonly special model razors for retailers and/or distributors. I am unfamiliar with the history on this distributor but it appears that they opted for their name on the tang as opposed to the blade face. Most of these razors have either the name if the company etched on the face of the blade or stamped/etched or the 'rear' of the tang.
It's a neat razor. Faux framebacks are always interesting. This is certainly not a common blade. It also seems the have something interesting going on at the top of the spine.
I would like to see it when it's cleaned up.
I think u got it for a good price too. Congrats.
Also I don't think the is an extra s. it appears to read wade and butchers celebrated double swag
