So just heard from Val from The Gentleman's Den, and I got this news regarding what I thought were perfect scales on the W&B Anchor, he says:
"Problem is that the scales are warped, and the blade would be going through the scales, and I cannot repair them. It would def need to rescale it so that it is back to being fully functional."
So the one razor, that I thought to be kept original, is not going to work out with the original scales.
Now to decide what to do next....:(
Thinning the wedge should fix the problem.
Val said he looked at a couple of options, I'm not a restorer, I'm trusting Val, he also advised me initially to stick to the original scales based on the photos. He just got the blade this afternoon.Quote:

Phrank, you should have written me. I would have immediately called upon The Church of the Steel Blade's exorcist to rid the scales of the warping demon residing in them. It's obvious it warped them to fit it's scale coated body's dimensions. All we can do now is offer up a novena for the replacement scales to be immune to demon transfer and restore the innocent clea - blade to it's inherent glory.
Yes, just shows how little I know about restoring, read lots of threads about warped scales and problems aligning them, when I saw the razor on Monday, it looked fine, scales looked great, noticed it wouldn't close at all, but figured that would work out. And was surprised to see a nick out of one of the scales, but thought no big deal. Turns out it is, Val has done hundreds of blades, and if he say's he can't salvage, I believe him, so it looks like it's going to be black horn, matching the color of the original scales.Quote:

Great razor, I've never seen an anchor W&B before. Pretty cool find. Look forward to seeing it shined up!
